First time applicant for the 2023 season.

I'm slightly unsure. Does the Special draw refer to the increased cost draw with slightly better odds? Or does it refer specifically to archery tags (vs. rifle?)

Thanks in advance.

Draw odds tend to be all over the place from one unit to the next. Sometimes it’s a matter of tossing dice. If special prices increase it may change things somewhat. In units where there are only a few nonres tags it doesn’t take many applicants to dramatically change things.

The first year we put in for WY, we went special and the odds were better in the regular draw.

This will be the last year of that. Special prices are set to increase in 2024 drastically. Elk tags are going to be almost $2000 and deer and antelope specials are supposed $1200-1400.

Used to be that special gave better odds. Nowadays you cant ever be certain.

The permit draw has gone wild west on us.

Special is supposed to be better odds however the odds don’t tend to be ever in my favor 😂
