Would I risk a used rifle? Yes. I have done it many times. So far, I have been very pleasantly surprised about 2/3 of the time and slightly disappointed in the other cases. I factor the cost of fixing the most likely issues into what I am willing to pay.
I won’t comment on the brand, as I have never used them. I do get a good chuckle out of the hyperbolic comparisons in this thread though. I do think CF barrels are a pointless gimmick. No objective reasoning. Just a preference and prejudice.
As far as whether the barrel is shot out, the biggest determinant is “how old is it?” Most people just don’t shoot that much, especially a rifle with any recoil. A two-year old 6.5 PRC probably has a lot of barrel life left in it. If it is ten years old, I would be a lot more worried. But, in any case, it’s not like buying a .220 Swift from 1963.
