Would you risk it?

I'm wanting a light 6.5prc and today while burning a bit of time I went in a LGS to look. Ran across a Christiansen Arms carbon wrapped barrel, threaded muzzle on the used rack.

Would you risk a CA rifle?
What about risking the barrel is toast?

Read up on the "gum wall" in Seattle if you want to get super grossed out.

I'm a bit old fashioned and I am just not ready for carbon barrels quite yet. I worked on a lot of composite components for aircraft in my day. It was hard to get that right for a huge aircraft manufacturer, much less a small barrel shop.

I have a number of christensen barrels and like them all. I also like the shape of the classic stock and have one of those. Many people are just repeating what others have said. The receivers are a basic Remington 700 with better machining, metal finish, and steel. Not perfect, but a lot of rifle for the money.

You have to tell us how much first and if they have an idea of round count. Some risks are worth taking…

I have two CA Ridgeline FFT Ti's and both shoot fantastic. One in 7PRC and one in 308 Winchester. I have zero complaints about either of them. You just might be passing up a great rifle at a great price. Besides, they warranty the rifle. It's your opportunity to pass up and to be honest most are just regurgitating what they heard or read somewhere and who knows if it was even factual.

You can have issues with any brand of rifle. It's what the manufacturer does about it that matters.

Post where it's located and the price, maybe someone else is willing to grab it.

It depends on how good a deal it is, could be worth taking a chance. I have a Mesa fft in 6.5 prc and overall I like the rifle but there’s a couple things I don’t love about it. It shoots great but after 25 or so rounds it gets buildup in the chamber which makes it real hard to close the bolt or extract a case.

Wait, you will pay for gum from the bottom of a McDonald's table? How much is extremely cheap enough?
If someone sorts through it and picks out all the Juicy Fruit for me.
Extremely cheap for the gum? $2. For the Christensen on the used rack? Not much more.
Whatever would be a bargain for the stock and action might be ok. Might be worth checking the chamber job if you have a lathe, if it could be fixed there.

They cut the chambers tighter than run of the mill rifles so perhaps you do have to clean it more often, and no reason not to anyways. Some powders are just dirty. With that said, I have not had any issues with that in either of my rifles and I'm shooting factory Federal ammo.
