You do know you can use it as a straight mil-based reticle and not have to use the added intuitive/'speed' aspects?

You definitely can, I’m just saying there’s still allot going on with windage.

The thicker black bars measuring .4-.8 mil out for “medium wind” obscure the actual .2 increment hash marks if you wanted to hold conventionally. The broken pattern from 1-2mil looks hard to follow against a target. The full 1 mil wide box seems unnecessary, etc. I just don’t see how this is “better” than a standard .2 mil pattern would be.

I’d love to look through one side by side with a more conventional increment pattern and see for myself. Just appears harder to use in the reference photos.

Maybe something similar to what Primary Arms has done with their ACSS variants - an 18" baseline, IIRC, that matches up with the height of most deer ribcages...

Haven't seen anything about whether or not a simplified ranging reticle has actually been included in the specs...

That would be excellent. Only other option would be to bump up to the ZP5 at some point, but I really can't justify that without having the long-range skill sets better established.

My guess - and it's only a guess - is that the ZP5 is niche enough that it won't be around new for much longer. But the niche appeal means there'll likely be a small, but present, secondhand market - hence meaning that buying one now is a bit of a win-win proposition.

And if you thought you'd ever want a scope in that mag range - well, apart from the reticle itself having all of the benefits that it has, with the Rokscope variants (and the RS1.2, to an extent), then you'd end up with a family of scopes for various applications that will all feel fairly familiar - rather than having to reorient to quite different reticles each time.

It's also worth remembering that few people who are more on the 'glass is very/most important' side of the house raved when the ZP5 came out (a couple of notable people on the Hide, for example). And, conversely, some who are on the 'glass comes well down the list after durability, usable reticle, etc', such as Form, have commented on the glass on the ZP5 when they might not otherwise bother and/or notice so much.

If this thing is clear and flat to 18x, I can't really see a hunting use case for more. As several have already mentioned, a 3-12x with less weight/length would be quite sufficient for my real-world needs.

Pretty sure they already talked about this. It was going to be the same scope body regardless if it was 12x,15x or 18x. Only different was the zoom dial would stop earlier on the lower mag scope. Figured why hinder the zoom for no benefit in weight/size

That reticle is a hot disaster. Terrible hunting reticle.

The P3L, while not perfect is a whole lot closer.

Well then, you've sealed your own deal - the recent S2H podcast said the Rokscope is a year away. Job done!

(And if you end up not wanting the ZP5, I'm pretty sure @Ryan Avery. @Formidilosus, or myself would happily buy it from you.)

This, I need one, possibly two scopes by next fall's hunting season (late Aug). I don't want to buy two scopes for a year & then try & sell them used for a reduced rate. If is a year away as Dobermann just stated, thank you for the update. I will plan accordingly & move on to something else.
