Worth drawing CO archery if you can’t hunt the first few days?

Hunted last week of sept last year and had a chance at a great buck. Not going to be an alpine hunt most likely but they are still killable

Well, I drew the tag so will certainly be going. May try to make a kamikaze scouting mission over the summer but would need to fly and rent a car for at most 2 days scouting so not sure it's worth it.

Guessing some other people are in a similar position on timing so will probably post an update once I make a decision later this summer but I'm starting to lean in favor of going early and having a few days to acclimate and get the lay of the land before the opener.

If you can swing it, take the 4 days after memorial day off and the following Monday. That gives you one more day of hunting. Flights will be cheaper for a Tuesday flight home also. Labor Day is an absolute shit show here in Colorado. You think you’re bad ass and can get into the backcountry? Never underestimate a band of hippies trying to find the most epic spot to take a picture for instagram and smoke a joint the most epic spot breh. You can run into a train of backpackers blasting reggae from a Bluetooth speaker 13 miles deep over Labor Day in any of Colorado’s wilderness areas. A weekend scouting trip (fly out Friday, land, drive all night, pack in, glass one morning and evening or one evening and morning, pack out and drive back to the airport) would be extremely helpful. It could save you wasted days during your hunt or your could blind luck into a good buck. Come scout end of July

The past 2 years in the same unit I was there before opening day and never saw a deer above 10,200. Ended up talking to a guy who was on a goat hunt that summer and he claimed he never saw a deer above Timberline. Last year we actually dropped elevation opening day because we didnt see anything.

Im probably an idiot but ive only seen 2 bucks in velvet opening week. I dont think its a huge deal breaker to come later in the season so you have more hunting days
