I know the Work Sharp micro has been a favorite of many for field sharpening, but it is now discontinued. It appears they replaced it with the Pivot which is similar but basically only has a flat diamond plate instead of diamond and ceramic rods. Can anyone comment on whether the new Pivot is just as good, and if in general small diamond plates are good or better (or worse) than diamond rods for field sharpening? Looking to get some more sharpening stuff like stones and field sharpener etc. One thing I need is a pocket sharpener capable of touching up Magnacut in the field.

I haven’t used it in the field yet but I like the size and the stone seems decent. Here are some size measurements to help if anyone is interested

Edit. I see this one is not the pivot also.

I see you are not familiar with the option I asked about. Link for option two is gouging on price since they no longer make it. It's supposed to be half that. The item I'm asking about it is the new version of option 2. It looks similar.
Re: Option #1 — I assumed based on your question that your concern with the new Pivot was the lack of a rod. The Pivot Plus comes with the rod and is still lighter than the worksharp micro.

Re: Option #2 - Yes, it’s price gouging. But it’s the tune of $15 for something you won’t likely burn through. If it’s what you wanted, spend the $15.

To your question, I find using a rod easier than a small diamond plate.
