Guys, I’m going to say it again. The OP is asking about a bag he’s going to use for work. I know he didn’t specify the types of environments he might encounter, but I’d say it’s safe to say he won’t be relying on it for survival.
It’s a backpack. Not a frame for hauling camp. I don’t know where you guys went to middle and high school, but I didn’t see to many guys rocking external or internal frame backpacks.
I did see a lot of Jan-Sport and Nike though.

I guess the fanboy just isn’t strong enough in me. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I use an Osprey Porter 30L, super slick, all straps can stuff inside the bag for a handy briefcase with no straps dangling around. Very subdued, fits into carry on bins with ease, can expand to haul a ton of stuff if needed.

Yea I'm Prob gonna go with something like you mentioned above. Probably that one even.
Thanks for input guys.
Don't get me wrong i like good stuff.
I mean yes I'd get a kifaru or SG. For like a edc/ get home bag .. if this was 2019.
Its 2021 i work from home now I've been in office handful of times since cv19. For this purpose is travel to power plants via car and plane. For my role, a few times a year for walkdowns and design reviews. Especially coal plants can be nasty. I just need to carry laptop/ipad, ppe, drawings. Few other minor things.
I'm not carrying our $60k+ faro scannners in my pack.

Lol yeah but expecting retirement to even be a thing if you’re born in the 90s is laughable. There’s also the side of it that those expensive bags hold their value. When I got into back country/western hunting. I went semi budget friendly and then lost horribly trying to sell it to upgrade. Where as most of the more higher end stuff you can get a good amount of your money back.

Retirement is very much a thing no matter when you were born if you understand finances

Greg, shoot me a pm when you get a chance. It sounds like you and I were doing very similar things in the power industry. I’m curious if I would have worked with your company.

OP asks for an everyday backpack for work.
Response... Get this $315 one it's the freaking tits!

I guess he did say he's an engineer so maybe that's not crazy! :p
Actuallly not an engineer. I said engineering field.
I'm a power generation eic electrical designer(but unless you work in some form on engineering most people have no idea what that is.)

Kifaru and SG also 100% USA made and Berry Compliant, and SG donates to wildlife conservation causes. I’d spend a little more for that, especially these days

Look i get it. I own a kifaru hunting pack. That makes sense.
If i was gonna use it for edc bag. Yes i prob get an avail, kiowa, shapecharge might make more sense for long term high use. But i work remotely now, its something I'm just gonna use a few times a year. Its not practical. Be like buying a pair of crispis. But your only gonna wear then to the barber.

Dude if you’re working remotely and only going to use it a few times a year why are you asking for opinions on here? Really??

You stated in the original post it was for work/edc by the way and implied it was going to be used extensively.

Anyway, Just go buy any backpack at REI, or Walmart for that matter. More than enough for what you need. smh 🙄

ebags pro slim laptop backpack.

Travel extensively and have for 15+ years. Love it. Organized, well thought out and designed. Still looks new after I don't know how many years. See a lot of them on the road. I bought it for its non-tacticoolness - those are everywhere where I travel and meet and are little ishy/"dude really?" if you're not a real user.

I’ve been considering getting a shape charge as a daily backpack.
I don’t understand how anyone would want an edc, work, or hunting daypack without a top handle. And don’t get me wrong, I love Kifaru. Presently have 2 Kifaru’s, and one of them is an Antero, which I use for day hunts or tree stand hunts. I’m retired, or it would certainly be my edc work backpack.
