I need a backpack for work edc/ travel.
Don't want anything crazy "tactical" looking. I need to be able to fly and take fieldwork at customer plants.
I'm work in engineering field, so office and power plants appropriate.
I don't want anything super expensive , but i don't want something that's gonna fall apart.

Any recommendations?

I use a Draco for EDC at work. Picked it up at a big box store a couple years ago and it's still holding up. May be a little too tactical looking for what you want though. I also have a Frost River canvas roll top backpack. I don't remember the exact model. Eco something or other. When I fly it's my carry on, also use it as a daypack on hikes and stuff. Looks relatively professional and I don't think you could kill it with a running chainsaw.

I've had one of these for 2 years.
I used to work a sales job in power plants and refineries. I had all my PPE (gloves, vest, eye and ear pro), FR coveralls, laptop, ipad, bluetooth keyboard, note pads and files in it. Kept my Nalgene in a mesh side pocket. Clipped my hard hat to the back.

It's still going strong.

Update:
Amazon doesn't have it anymore. Found the same one on ebay:

And here's one on amazon:

I’ve been considering getting a shape charge as a daily backpack.

I love my shape charge. Definitely gets used the most for me. White tail hunting from the stand. Ice fishing. Fishing. Air travel. Really anything its pretty much my go to unless it’s a multi day trip.

That’s what I’m looking for. I use a nomad but it’s pretty small, especially in the winter or heading out for an overnight flight or something.

I think the shape charge will fit the ticket for you. I love it. I do with it was a tad bigger sometimes, but that’s not often an issue. And I know there’s the 22 mag but for a lot of what I use my shape charge for, I just don’t need or want a frame.

I Definetly don’t want a full size frame for what I’m talking about. I used to use a stone glacier solo but I’d have to check it, and it’s too much pack for a day hike, also waaaay too much pack for a walk to work.

I've got a Vertx EDC Gamut that I've used the last 3+ years and freaking love it. Same general type of use as you describe--industrial setting.

I believe they have a new generation out, but if/when mine wears out I'll definitely be buying another. Great features, well built, inconspicuous--doesn't scream "Tactical Timmy!"

I’d recommend a MR Scapegoat

Yea but I look at it this way... $300 or so for a backpack that you will use every day and travel with and will last forever is a better value when you look at the overall picture. It’s not just dollars and cents. Just my opinion.

I'm a salesman by trade. Value is a perception. If you perceive that you want to spend that kind of money on a backpack with the idea that you'll pass it down for the next generation, I'm not going to talk you out of it.

I listed a $40 option that my personal experience has shown to hold up well for over two years. Even if that bag miraculously fell apart tomorrow, I could buy one every two years and it would be 7 years and 10.5 months before your shapecharge would have been a better deal.

It's your money. Do what you want with it, but remember that retirement is pretty cool too!

I see what you’re saying Superdoo but I’m sure the Kifaru or Stone Glacier will last well past that 7yr 10 month mark.

Im also willing to pay more for better CS, design, and functionality. Ever try to cut wood with a cheap saw?

In any event, I doubt any expensive backpack is going to delay my retirement. We’re not buying boats here..

Lol yeah but expecting retirement to even be a thing if you’re born in the 90s is laughable. There’s also the side of it that those expensive bags hold their value. When I got into back country/western hunting. I went semi budget friendly and then lost horribly trying to sell it to upgrade. Where as most of the more higher end stuff you can get a good amount of your money back.
