Just wanting to hear about some wood arrow builds. Im going to Canada in June, would like to shoot my bear with a woodie. Ive always shot aluminums, never messed with woodies.

Awesome. I have been building my wood arrows for well over 30 years and probably could answer any questions you might have. However I would recommend you go over to YouTube and look up Addictive Archery. Andy Ponce does an excellent job on arrow building from start to finish.

I mostly shoot wood and have been building my own for about 3 years. I like the True North stains, crown dip and clear coats. It’s easy to work with and doesn’t have a strong smell, which is important to me because I build them in my basement. Duco for feathers and nocks work great. Good luck—I shot a 400lb bear with a wood arrow (made by someone else before I started building them) and 50lb longbow and he was down in about 60 yards. Here’s my first and only arrow set I made with Minwax poly—it’s pretty durable but I still prefer the True North stuff.

I build mine as well. I use True North and it’s worth every penny. I don’t do anything fancy on mine. Just a basic stained and sealed arrow for hunting and that’s it. A lot of these guys make some beautiful finished arrows and mine are not that. They kill animals beautifully and knowing you took the time on them makes it even better with more to the story. I also do the same for the rest of the arrow build as mgmicky.

I use mostly True North products. I use Minwax clear gloss as my sealer.
