I have a few late season hunts coming up this year. I have a whitetail hunt at the end of December (tree stand) and an antler less elk hunt in January. I have a great layering system for my upper half. I’m wanting something for pants. Should I wear my layering system and get a late season pant? Should I get a pair of bibs? If so, I’m looking at the FirstLite Sanctuary bib or the Sitka Fanatic bibs. Anyone have any experience with these? Also, any good advice on hats, gloves, boots, etc.

If I was to buy a pair of western hunting pants for my wife I would look at the Sitka timberlines. The waterproof knees and butt come in handy when there is moisture on the ground. Almost a given for late season hunts. Bibs might be good for a tree stand hunt, but would be too warm for hiking steep terrain. The timberlines and a good merino base layer are a workhorse during late season hunts.

I appreciate the input! I’ve really liked the women’s Sitka line so far and I’ve been curious about the timberline pant for awhile now. I have the core mid weight pants that I like to run under the FirstLite Alturas guide pant. I like the idea of the water resistant butt and knees on the timberline though.
