Womens archery elk setup

My wife is picking up a Hoyt charger 40-50 lbs. She's pretty confident she'll be pulling 50 by next season. She already limited here range to 20. I've been trying to figure with a solid cut on contact head will it be enough on elk? She's wants shoot Easton axis arrows. Her draw is around 26-26.5. Any input on the best setup for her? I'd set her up with an Axis 500 and a 100 gr COC head such as the Magnus Stinger or ST Viper Trick. That'd be a good solid set up for her specs.

Shoot a VPA. And don't do like many do with low poundage setups and go light. What you can't get in poundage you can somewhat make up for in arrow weight. I'd use at least a 125 gr broadhead, even 150. Especially if you will limit shot range.

I was thinking right along the line OR archer. Might bump up to the 125 grain. She likes the looks of the Solid Broadhead company, she has expensive taste. Just a rough guess her arrow should come out at around 375 or so with 125 grain head. I think she should be alright. Just wanted some others thoughts. I appreciate it guys

My wife/daughter have hunted with between 46-52lbs for years using Easton Axis 500s and even the 600s. 100 gr muzzy BHs and shot limits of 20-25 yards seem to work. While we havent had the opportunity to hunt elk, I would think a rig capable of taking down a bear/moose would do for elk hunting. As with everything, shot placement is critical.

I wouldn't personally put her in a 125gr head. You may run into spine issues by going with to heavy of a head.

The Solids are nice heads but I don't think they are any better than the Magnus. Plus you can get 6 Magnus for the price of 3 Solids and also get a lifetime warranty with the Magnus.

I think this is a great setup. My brothers GF shot a mature bull this year with a FMJ 500 tipped with a 100 grain Stinger and got a complete pass though at 20 yds. Bull made it 70 yds.

There's female archers shooting traditional bows, with a compound she shouldn't have any problems as long as she maximzes the efficiency that the cam bow allows. I would get an arrow that can handle a 175+ grain Grizzly broadhead. Single bevel, 6 of then for $42.99+shipping. Easy to sharpen, super tough head. 10gpi+ arrow, only thing she loses is sound, only going to be shooting 20-25 yards anyways, might as well have a quiet, hard hitting and forgiving setup.

I'd at least try to get to the 400-450gr mark and shoot something like a Simmons, VPA, or Stinger. If you have too, over-spine to a 400. The bow will more than likely shoot just fine with a 400 spine, and it'll be easier to build a heavier arrow. Just my $0.02

My personal choice would be:

Axis 500 with an 85 grain slick trick.

The 85 grain will help the spine a bit and pick up a little bit of speed and with womens shorter draws and lower pounds it'll be a bigger boost in her KE.

I have my wife in a Vector Turbo 52# 25" running an Axis 600 and 85 Slick Tricks

I'm a big fan of a FOC. With her DL and 50# I would go into an Axis 400 w/ a 50grn brass insert and a 100grn head.
