Wolves in Colorado

As a side note, are there any graphic designers out there that can help me incorporate the Colorado state flag into the iconic "Smoke a Pack a Day" decal you often see in Montana and Wyoming? I'd like to have the "smoke a pack a day" in the red "C" on the flag and wolf pack in the crosshairs in the yellow sun.

Once I have the logo finalized, I'll make an inquiry with Patagonia asking them to give me pricing on getting it embroidered on some of their puffy jackets and hats.

How so i thought Aron brought lots of facts like the financial problems the wolves would cause. What picture did they falsify ?

This is just off the top of my head. Brian states that the Northern Yellowstone elk herd went from 20k to 1500 and there are no tags there anymore. Which is a complete lie.

Aron states that the record or near record bull moose was just shot. Wellll the world record archery elk was shot in a state with wolves 2 years ago, and Newburg has said in a recent podcast that more Boone and Crockett elk have come from MT in the last 3? Or 5? Years than any other state. Weird, MT has wolves yet are producing more trophy bulls.

Then Guy just spewed garbage and I shut it off.. the Lewis and Clark almost starving going over the continental divide solely because of wolves, and the reason no wolves starve now is because of ag. I couldn’t take it anymore.

I’m not saying wolves don’t have an affect on ungulate populations, I also don’t believe that wolves need or should be in every possible corner or the world. But I don’t think they were completely truthful.

I had the same reaction as you. Couldnt get more than 10 minutes in. Some of the stuff they were saying was as crazy as New Jersey cat ladies. This is why we cant find a middle ground based in science.

I could be wrong but wasnt that elk shot in the eastern part of montana where there are no wolves or at least a very few. How many of the trophy bulls coming out of the nw and sw part of MT and how many out of the missouri breaks and east part of MT would be pretty telling. Here is a map of wolf packs in Mt so i wonder why the world record was shot where it was in powder river county ?

You’re not wrong. It was an eastern bull. But it’s still a state with wolves, and they are still producing quality animals and wolves have free reign to be in eastern MT too, and are there from time to time. So not an apples to apples comparison.

Also- one of them stated the “...make the same mistakes as MT, ID, WY” it wasn’t the states that brought them back, it was the Feds. This was just the first few minutes, I can’t imagine what they went on to say.

I have zero confidence that Colorado will make the right choice. Just looking at the past few months tells me all I need to know about what is important to Colorado public officials. We voted no as a state on the oil and gas bill and then the public officials still found a way to pass a similar bill.
If Gray Wolf reintroduction is voted in favor of by the Citizens of Colorado and they are also delisted from the Endangered Species List (which may happen soon), wouldn't that leave them to be managed solely by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, of which opposes Initiative 79? What is to stop CPW from introducing them and then managing them like coyotes with a year round no bag limit season? Which would be worse for CPW, getting sued by advocacy groups for mismanagement or the possible loss of money from decreased license sales in the future? I have a feeling the "Public Officials" will find a way to get what they want again. Either way, hope every Coloradan here votes no on 79 when the day arrives.

Meateater Podcast just had an episode (166) where they discussed this. It was a pretty good discussion of wolves in general. But they addressed this specific topic toward the end of the podcast. They also addressed whether reintroduction was necessary in Yellowstone all those years ago, or if the wolves would have returned on their own. Obviously there is no way to know with certainty the answer to this. Diane Boyd delivered some pretty good information. Wolf numbers high enough to be de-listed will happen naturally, it just may take more time than the "PRO" reintroduction folks want.

The idiots on the front range aren’t smart enough to live with wolves. Montana, Idaho, Wyoming ers..... generally have a better head on their shoulders. These dirty hippies are literally going to be eaten alive. Love that the proposed reintroduction is specified as west of the continental divide. Denver and boulder dictating “real” Coloradans again.

I'm afraid this is actually true, but it's not just hippies. A lot of these front range suburbanites have their heads up their asses too. They're just so oblivious to everything around them and seem to have no common sense.

I’m all too aware. I’m in the thick of it. Been here since ‘82 so I’ve seen the decline first hand.

Maybe you should do your own research then. The world record elk came from a part of MT that doesn't have wolves, at least not in a measurable amount. The number of bull tags has been greatly reduced north of Yellowstone due to the drop in elk numbers. You laugh at them for spouting BS supposedly, and yet you do the exact same thing. Big elk are getting killed in MT outside of the wolf zones. How many you think come out of SW and NW Montana recently?

The number of bull tags went from an unlimited tag to 50 last year. I believe Karen proposed 100 tags 3-4 years ago and didn’t get it. Also- that elk herd is trending upwards again, but selective pressure (whether its wolves or more/less unrestricted harvest) has dropped the bull:cow ratio to warrant the limited entry position it’s in.

I did my research. I didn’t say the WR was from the western half, but MT which is true. So no, I’m not doing the same thing.
