I don't know about you, but I'm already thinking spring bears! Throw some tips out........... I'll start

Remote bears, Western US, AK, I prefer to bait heavy the day prior to my hunt if possible vs bait and climb.

Bears don't show in good numbers up here until May 10th-20th or so. Focus is on bison and possibly another caribou hunt.

As far as bear tips:

1. sleep in
2. go fishing
3. hunt bears in the late afternoon/evening
4. south facing slopes are your friend

Has anyone hunted a burn area the following spring? One of my best baits was burned to a crisp this year and I'm wondering how it will be this coming spring. Not sure what is left but it was a monster fire.

I am planning on killing a few, but I am not far enough into winter to start the daily day dream about late nights in the stand or long days of glassing.

No. But shed hunting is 6 weeks away and turkey not long after.

Maybe hunt bears next year. I'll definitely be following along this spring.

I don’t think that far in the future as I am thinking wolves if some work-related travel restrictions are relaxed.

Wasn’t planning on spring bear this year but a buddy and I are thinking about picking up some Idaho deer tags. So if I already have a license why not make the most of it do a spring trip too...

Good timing. I've been thinking about bears a good deal lately.

Will be my first hunt in AK. Going for a ton of popcorn, a few homemade suckers, and some stink buckets. Other then that, I don't have a clue in hell!

I'd better start popping corn.

I think costco or 3 bears will sell you a giant amount of it for not much.

When you set your barrel out put a small hole in it, slightly larger than a 50 cent coin. Make sure you anchor that barrel well and save yourself the bait expense as well as keeping bait in the barrel. Having those large holes in the barrel is simply feeding them

I’m convinced bears love the fact they have to work (and they will work it trust me) to get one piece of popcorn out. Also if you think about it, a bear wanders through the woods flipping rocks, logs, etc for a single grub, couple ants etc. They will more than work the barrel hard to get what they want.

Bears are just about the perfect spot and stalk animal for a Bowhunter if found in decent numbers and the correct terrain. I love spring bear hunting, whether black bears or grizzlies when it was still open in BC.

Grouse are drumming, days are long and getting warmer, ungulat sign is still easy to see from the previous fall etc. Also easy to find a snowbank to stash the meat in to continue the hunt for a second bear or cool it down before heading home.

I find stalking bears to within decent bow range to be as exciting a hunt as any I do....specially when it was grizzlies! Blacks are great too!

We’ve got a lot of black bears to work with in parts of BC. No baiting but it isn’t necessary due to numbers and stalkable areas.

Good luck to the spring bear hunters in ‘21!
