Once or twice every decade the jet stream drops far enough south that the storms that are supposed to hit BC and Wa track across NorCal thru Or and South Idaho and into Co. What is a normal winter in Wa becomes the apocalypse whenever the storms miss to the south and is national news. So for me it has been one of the more pleasant winters in a while even with a good snowpack in the mountains.

My brother is in Twin Falls Id and the kids have had more snow days this winter than the past six combined so, yea, they've been hit real hard.

Here's too a warm and pleasant March and not too much of an impact on any herds.

Mud season will be here soon enough!!

The problem in Twin Falls now is flooding and potholes. Holy crap, the worst of any city I'm in for work, by far. The warmer weather the past couple of weeks has gotten an early start on mud season, but I know that more snow is coming.

About all i can tell you is there is going to be serious winter kill. Its the most snow on the winter range that has been seen in a decade or so. And im talking about the actual desert area where these deer winter. Its bad. dead deer all over. In Jackson region specifically it has been terrible. Game and fish is expecting possible record winter kill numbers, but maybe we will get lucky and spring wont be rough...but i have a feeling its not going to let up soon. . There will still be deer obviously, but it will make it much harder to find great bucks especially in H, and ample scouting will be very beneficial to success after a winter like this

This is disappointing to hear. We may be hunting deer up Fish Creek in Unit H and we're in a position where my hunting partners and I have to go this year. . . so hopefully there's some deer left.

We will really see the damage of this winter in the 3-5 year range, when the numbers of mature bucks of that age are much less due to this year's die off. I haven't seen a fawn in quite a while whereas at the beginning of winter they were with every group of deer I looked at.

The herds are gonna have a tough time now. Another big storm is hitting us. Not looking good

The valleys here have so far been spared from the heavy snows the mountains are getting. What a fine line a few hundred feet in elevation can make. The Wyoming Range mtns got over a foot last night whereas the valleys 10 miles west have seen only rain/sleet. Unfortunately the snow pack on the winter ranges is going to stay hard. Temps supposed to plummet to around +/- 0 again with highs in the low 20's for the next week. Looking around western Wyoming on the WYDOT hwy cameras looks like most of the winter ranges didn't get any new snow. Will see what tonight brings.

Whats the word on sw montana, more specifically around big timber and the tendoy's. I know they just opened up the tendoy unit for general tags, hopefully the winter isn't too severe where they make it a limited hunt again.

As a crow flies I'm not too terribly far from Big Timber; this has been a very rough winter- above normal snowfall statewide, much below normal temps starting in December through early February. Things starting moderating about a week and a half ago, some areas close to 20 degrees above average. Starting to see some south and west facing slopes bare of snow.

One positive note, we had an extremely mild fall, so the deer should have been able to put on some good fat before winter set in.

They really won't have a good idea until they start hitting their spring trend areas in a couple of months, my fingers are crossed, but I'm not overly optimistic at this juncture.

I just checked the forecast for the big timber area, looks like it's gonna stay mild for a little bit longer, so hopefully the animals can get a break from the brutal weather. thanks for the info.
