Non hunting brand specific, what is everyone’s experience with finding quiet windproof or wind resistant clothes to layer under hunting clothes that aren’t windproof or to just cut the wind that much more.

FYI If you're trying to stay warm, you want the windproof layer on the outside of all your other clothing.

I have an ultralight REI windbreaker that is plenty quiet and is a good outer layer for mid season temps. For colder hunting or long sits I put on a heavier jacket that is also windproof

If its really windy I wear my rain jacket and pants as my outside layer which blocks all the wind. My rain gear is quiet enough and since its windy the noise doesnt matter beyond 75 yards or so.

I don't think it is around anymore, but Cabelas made a clothing line called windshear. I have some that I wear when it reaches 0 and below. Best outer wear I have.

If it's "windproof" and I'm relatively active, I find it rarely breathes well. The usual result is me sweated up pretty good in the end.

I prefer to tote the "windproof" layer with me and put it on when I'll be stationary for a time, then take it off before moving again.

YMMV.

Just grabbed a $30 windproof soft shell from Sam's club, expectations aren't super high but it fit right for layering with a fleece beneath. Only wore it outside once so far but seemed to do pretty good. Not super quiet but again I'm not super worried about that since it's probably windy enough to cover.

I have used the FL Ridgeline as a layer to bury under clothes and it works pretty well for the purpose. I am using the HPG windcheater now as an outer layer and I prefer it for sits in the cold or limited activity. It is more smock in design but sized well to go over other layers. No need to size up. By comparison, it is not lightweight, but much more durable, quiet enough, and works well in up to ~20mph winds and light rain I’ve experienced.
