I recently read the scope mounting to maintain zero thread:


I decided to give it a go earlier today.

I torqued the ring caps to spec, but, as seen in photos 2 and 3, there is a noticeable gap between forward ring caps on the side opposite the bolt handle.

I’d imagine this will effect performance and ability to maintain zero.

Any ideas on where I could have gone amiss?

You put more pressure on the off side when tightening down. Take your time with even pressure and equal turns and you will minimize the gap disparity. Make sure the gap starts equal and check throughout the tightening

May be the picture, but front ring looks close to scope bell

Okay. Got it. I’ll redo the ring caps and slow it down. Thanks!

It’s an 8th of an inch from front ring to bell.
