They closed ski season prior to spring break, revenue is not the focus.

Revenue will inevitably become the focus. Our country cannot stay locked down for half a year. We will be in the Greatest Depression modern man has ever seen.

The ski resorts aren’t going anywhere. Someone will buy them and open them back if the current owners can’t hold on. The pandemic was also fresh right now. 6 months from now it’s not going to be fresh.

DNRs will become non essential if they can’t bring in the nonresident dollars that fund them, period.

Again, if states close elk season were all F***ED. The fed is talking 32% unemployment. We’ll become Africa West. Elk hunting won’t matter at that point.

The 2nd wave, W recovery of the Spanish flu was the most impactful.

Mississippi has an elk season?

That was in response to the suggestion that “liberal” states are freaking out and shutting everything down while “conservative” states are staying open and places like Idaho will have guaranteed hunting seasons because they don’t freak out

1. This has started to change dramatically in the last 24 hours.
2. MS’s governor effectively did nothing for too long to deal with CV and the state, despite being conservative, is about to get body slammed by CV. I doubt they will cancel hunting season, but there may be far less people left to go hunting by the time Fall gets here.

I don’t think states will cancel hunting seasons outright, but traveling from one state to the next could be an issue.

Didn't I read just today on a news source that Trump is considering a national lockdown.

All I have seen is that he has stated that he does not think that measure “will be necessary”, however, that was before “prepare for dark days” news conference, so perhaps that position has changed? I’m still seeing lots of chatter about guys justifying their plans to travel for Spring hunts because “it’s turkey season.” It might just be the case that hunters need to be places on forced lockdown within their states because we apparently have too many selfish idiots in our ranks.

Non resident dollars is what pays the bulk of the funds for many western game and fish agencies. There will be a season, you’ll just have to quarantine for 14 days if you want to hunt there after.

That’ll be their loophole to keep your money.

But as I’ve said before, if we’re still on effectively nationwide lockdowns by September, a hunting season will be the least of our concerns. The economic implications of being locked down for 6 months would put the world into another Great(er) Depression.

To pour a little gas on this fire as far as Colorado’s elk season is concerned - our governor is not an advocate of hunting, and his husband is a vegan animal rights activist.

As someone else mentioned, the governor ordered ski areas closed during one of their peak seasons. Also, the governor has stated that Colorado’s economy is diverse and vibrant enough to compensate for some state industries that are more affected by the shut down than others. He’s also subverted a vote regarding the oil and gas industry through political “engineering” that he was in opposition to.

I don’t think it‘s out of the realm of possibilities to think that our governor would make a decision regarding upcoming hunting seasons that would not just be based on preventing the spread of the Covid virus.

There’s a sheriff in Weld County Colorado that has refused to enforce some guns laws that our state has enacted because he considers them a violation of our 2nd ammedndment rights (and I agree with him). He’s also recently stated something regarding the Covid virus that I believe is accurate “I understand that nobody wants to catch Coronavirus but statistically, even if you catch it you’re likely to be just fine. What I’m concerned with is our Country catching a huge case of socialism.”

I think the Covid virus is a serious issue, and I’m not willing to risk my health or anyone else’s on statistics, but I do agree that we need to be extremely vigilant to ensure that any measures taken now aren’t just an excuse for a politician or party to change or infringe n our rights.

I could definitely see our upcoming hunting seasons being affected by our governor‘s opinion on hunting under the guise of virus protection.

Oregon just closed all trailheads and atv/ohv trails until September 8th or until further notice.
This is on top of closing all day use, campgrounds and state parks a few weeks ago.
Not sure what this means for hunting. I don't hunt at a park or camp on a campground so not sure what this means for the season.
If we can and this crazyiess continues, I'm worried the woods will be packed.

I know this is state by state but here in the FL the executive ‘Stay at Home’ order for the state specifically mentions Hunting and Fishing as essential activities.

Don't be so sure. Nebraska cancelled all non-resident turkey permit sales effective 3/30. Of course residents are still allowed to buy tags.

If Alaska can cancel spring bear hunting [which they did today] you damn right elk seasons can be canceled

The doctors and scientists have not found Democrats or Republicans are more or less susceptible to the Covid 19 virus. Unless all of our governors start dealing with it as serious and nonpartisan, we could have a lot more problems in our Country than a lost elk season. I have bought my license and applied for tags. I expect to go hunting, but for now I am staying hunkered down.

Well I pray this will be done by the fall and elk season continues on. But if not I really don’t see Arkansas closing season for residents anyway so it could be worse. Not that there is a chance I’ll draw an elk tag here. Always deer tho.
