Hey all southern Colorado residents. I will be muzzy deer hunting in Southeastern Colorado in a few weeks. Bringing the meat back on the plane is expensive. Is there anyone looking to take some free meat or know someone who is?

You can also have it processed and shipped for a pretty decent price as well if you are gonna donate the whole animal you have to have it processed anyways or find someone who is willing to give up their tag to take the meat. Or find several people to donate 20lbs to a piece. Plus you need to check out the Colorado reg books about donating meat.

Wow. Some of responses not what I was expecting. Agreed, eat what you kill. But there are also less fortunate people out there. Last year I gave my elk and deer to the same family in Idaho who had to barrow money for gas to meet me. I did a better deed by giving than taking.

You said it was expensive to bring meat back on the plane. Its also expensive to ship a head, but that's ok? Maybe you should not have passed it as a financial decision. I agree giving meat to a family in need is good.

Unbelievable some of the responses to your generous offer. I really do struggle to control myself when reading DB typists. Like you, I fill freezers of needy families and venison lovers all season long. Any butcher in the area you're hunting should have a list of people looking for venison. Best of luck on your hunt. Nothing wrong with giving away your meat. Just contact Colorado Fish and Game, they should point you in the right direction.

The issue in your post that rubs some people the wrong way is that you said it was expensive to ship the meat home. I have no issue personally with giving meat away. I do it regularly after I butcher and process it. Typically to family, friends, and coworkers that were unsuccessful or not able to get out. No issue there. But squacking over $100-200 to get your meat home because it's costly seems ridiculous when you drop big coin on Kifaru packs, Kuiu and Sitka gear and transportation to and from the hunt. To a lot of us the meals provided after the hunt are just as important as the hunt it self. It usually brings back memories of the recent success. Best of luck on your upcoming hunt

I'd post an add on craigslist in Colorado, you'll have someone wanting it within minutes.

Most processors in CO have a hunters for the hungry program. Typically they charge you up front for the processing ,then donate it after its ready. As for the head shipping, generally I bring home all of my antlers and capes on the plane in a storage container from Walmart. If I decide to bring meat home on the plane, I de-bone it. Typically I kill plenty of whitetails during the season here in the South and I have plenty of meat. It was not an unreasonable question the OP asked. Good luck on the hunt!

X7 on checking the regs. Also contact the closest cpw office. They donate meat to those in need, usually from confiscated animals. I would phrase it as wanting to help, not because of the expense.

This was a simple question asked, and it has been answered. You don't know what you don't know. Many people don't think to call F&G and ask about these things. Who would have thought to buy an old chest freezer and a generator and go hunting 2000 miles away with it? Not me.

This was never intended to become yet another ethics debate over who stands on the higher ground. Ryan or Robby just needs to kill this thread because there is nothing more to add in respect to the OP.
