I ended up with 1000 rounds of RWS 8x57. I was going to do a 224-6mm Ackley improved (224 TTHA) or a 6mm Ackley improved.

Tried to make 5,6x57 for my Mauser 66 and even with neck turning they aren't really working.

I ran a 260AI reamer in deep to use the full length of 7 mm Mauser cases, it was excellent, can’t see any reason why you couldn’t do similar with a 22 Creedmoor reamer

5.6x57 RWS (Mauser), not a wildcat.

I think he’s asking what can he wildcat with good 8x57 brass.

Running -08 and Creedmoor reamers in deep ends up pretty nicely from a dimensional standpoint. Headspace gets tricky unless you run something with a 40 degree shoulder (like the 260AI mentioned above) that you can use 257 Bob or 7x57 AI headspace gauges for. I’m sure there’s multiple options to deal with that.

224 TTH, 6mm Rem AI, 257 Bob AI, or 7x57 AI would be the primary options. There are also some 6.5 variants based off the Bob AI case. I’ve got a 7x57AI based on a Peruvian 1909 Mauser that’s a heck of a shooter. Every bit of a 280AI when loaded to the same pressures.

I’m personally liking the idea of 224 Vais (necked down and improved 6.5x55) or perhaps a 22 Swedemoor (22 Creedmoor reamer run in to 6.5x55 length) because of the ease of using good 6.5x55 brass, but that doesn’t do anything for your Mauser case supply.

22 Sweedmoor is sounding awesome.

I have over 1000 rounds of RWS brass for it. I might get another 1000 to do this.

Once fired RWS Cineshot 8x57, 308, 30-06 is super cheap here in Europe.

8x57 is awesome just as is... 😉

6.5x57 is very cool too. You could probably AI it too. As far as I recall the 8x57 is the case upon which the 6.5 is based and not the 7x57 (slight headspace difference but sure you could size either way).

The RWS brass I have is great. Not sure if that once fired you refer to is as good as boxed brass.

I rechambered my 8x57 to 8x68 S. So I don't have an 8x57. I would get another Blaser barrel for the 8x57, but I don't think I would have much use for it.

It is at the proof house in Ferlach, Austria right now. I wish I would have went 8mm-300 PRC. I didn't find out until after they shipped it that I could do a wildcat.
