I found the forearm to be the slickest with only a flat black coat on it, which was a problem when hunting coastal blacktail up here in BC. If you hunt areas with wetter climate, definitely make sure the stock is textured
Keep us updated. I'm waiting patientlyIve Also been patiently waiting. thanks for the heads up decker, I’ll see what they Have to say.
Im in canada and looking to put my tikka 300 WSM in a wildcat stock.. im pretty handy but a little concerned on the painting.. any tips for a lasting finish?Mine was one of his first, and it has a couple seasons on it now. Probably 6-7 hunts and a fair amount of range work in that time. All good.
I would recommend a pebble type finish or similar. The raw gel coat is pretty slick and needs something to give it grip.
I will say that it's really only inexpensive if you have the know-how to finish it yourself. If you need to pay a gunsmith for bedding and paint, it's going to be as expensive as anything. It might still be the lightest though.
