I have always been a bit anti wild horses. I thought of them as nothing more than feral livestock. On my way back from Yellowstone a few days ago I spent a few hours around some wild horses east of Cody WY. I still far from the group that thinks the more the better and still concerned about what to many can do to the habitat they live in. With said I found them cool and great to photograph. Hope to head out to more wild horse country soon._V1A3654.jpeg_V1A3839.jpeg_V1A3902.jpeg2D62905C-5CC2-4BB8-89D4-78DE3F3FD8E0.jpeg72F2A757-D108-4192-9986-9F25F43342E4.jpeg7A84A5EE-4F3E-48E5-A675-1E09C39576E1.jpeg_V1A3944.jpeg_V1A3759.jpeg_V1A3749.jpeg

Beautiful, great shots! What are you shooting with?

While I understand some of the anti-horse sentiment I'm always happy when I see wild horses or burros in Nevada.

I spent a month in NW Colorado a couple years ago the wild horses were everywhere. They are a beautiful animal.

Those pics are awesome! I’ve never heard of an anti-horse stance. Interesting for me to think about.

They are beautiful but are the scourge of the west. They are not “wild” they are feral and scum let them loose rather than pay for and care for them or dispose of them properly. Now they displace native wildlife, eat up valuable resources, and will completely take over waterholes not allowing deer, antelope, bighorn sheep (seen this first hand in AZ) to water.

Nothing besides man does more damage to a habitat than wild horses. They horde, defend and destroy water source across the arid west.
A true management nightmare any where they roam.

The naming of the Wild and Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 was chose for a reason.

“Wild” is usually correlated with “native”. They are no more wild or native than knapweed, cheat grass or feral hogs. They are free-roaming however. I’ve never understood these groups that follow them around in AZ. It’s like worshipping a weed.

Their non-cloven hooves (and huge numbers) cause significant damage and they displace deer, elk, sheep, etc… Which are all wild and native.

I truely wish it was legal to cull feral horses. They do not belong on the landscape, and would make great forage for smaller carnivores after they have been shot.

They’re not bad eating either. Australia has the right idea.

Yuck, I would rather not eat horse. It is on the menu here in Germany, but not for me.

Learned something today. Thanks!
