Although I have and enjoy my Swaro 8.5x42's, when rifle hunting out west I always use my Geovid 10x42's.
I'd like to hear reasoning from folks who use 8x binos for their main hand held binoculars when western BG hunting.

The few times I've run 8s out west I wanted more power. Even if just a little more to quickly count points or put antlers on a cow/doe in low light. Run and gun situations not just sitting and glassing. I've never felt burdened by 10x42s in timber.

I love the 8s I own, but I definitely prefer 10s out west. Personal preference as I know far better hunters than me on this forum that prefer 8s on the chest.

I prefer 7x……it’s extremely relaxing and calm when handholding. They still work great when your heart rate is up too from hiking

I can’t handhold 10x or higher well and the FOV is useful. I don’t think I’d find more deer with the extra magnification but the extra FOV will

Better FOV, easier to hold steady, and a bit brighter in low light.

7x works for me also.

That said I do like 10x for sheep and antelope.
