The biggest issue in my opinion is the Supreme Court has been tip toeing around the main issue of what the 2A protects and doesn’t. They define arms as common use, the AR15 is the #1 most commonly used and owned firearm yet these states still pass laws that go directly against this ruling with no repercussions. The state gets sued, that gets fought in the courts for years, then it gets overturned but in those years we lose our rights. It’s a rinse and repeat game in blue states. Look at CA. I just don’t know how you even fight against it. These politicians are protected and allowed to dictate the citizens in said states. You can’t sue them directly for these bills so how do you stop it?

If you dive further in these states and who is getting these laws even on the table to get voted on they all stem back to NGOs that are sponsored heavily by billionaires. What can be done against those?

They canceled CWP reciprocity agreements I while back, then they reinstated it after a couple year battle..removing my pistol from the holster an placing in on the dash while driving thru VA was just weird, but legal.

Got it down to 60mins, I don't speed, I don't stop, and I dont spend time/money there, just try keep moving and try not to get any of it on me.

Then next door in WV you have SB 1071 kicking around...Its to establish Office of Public Defense to sell FA machine guns to qualified state residents...#Merica!

Virginia has always been an open carry state which means I could walk into Walmart with an AR-15 on my back as long as Walmart didn’t have a sign up stating otherwise. Virginia has always had great gun laws, until the progressive lefties came into office. Governor Northam did this same and people actually showed up to protest 6 years ago. Virginia wasn’t and different than WV until this year.

BS. This thread is about gun control, specifically in VA, where it is being passed almost 100% on party lines. It's not much different at the federal level. You can't give me a similar example of republicans cramming civil liberty violations down the throats of law-abiding citizens when they were in control of our state, because there isn't one. Most of the people who voted for this are dependent on the government. We went from a nation that valued independence and knew that dependency was antithetical to liberty and self-governance to one where the federal and state governments are the largest employers.

I’ve been in Virginia since 1965 I’m very aware of there gun laws and it wasn’t early 2000 it was put into law July 1 2020. You might want to get your facts straight before you start making statements you clearly know nothing about. You don’t need to worry about getting pulled over in Virginia with a firearm yet. But you best be real careful in Maryland they will lock you up, that’s another leftist liberal state against 2A rights.

For the record one gun a month was in effect from '93 to '12 when it was repealed and it was reinstated 7/1/20...guess you "forgot" those years....VA has always been for lovers not gun owners, current legislation should suprise no one.

In certain ways, I can understand the basis for that date and, I'll add, I appreciate that you did not merely list the decade of your youth, which is what a lot of people default to.

~1890 was indeed around the beginning of the US government as an administrative state. I see that the Interstate Commerce Commission was established in 1897. There was also the Sherman Antitrust Act passed in 1890. This was also the timeframe that the US began to move into the Industrial Revolution with the majority of working Americans becoming wage workers.
And there are also the examples of the US becoming involved in foreign wars in the 1890s with conflicts and deployments in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.

But, let's be real: this golden age of pre 1890 liberty only applied to a very specific demographic: property owning, adult white males. For a financially secure white man, the pre-1890s United States offered a level unregulated freedom that may very well be unmatched anywhere in history. However, that was only likely ~10% of the population. Even if you excluded the property owning, financially secure criteria, you'd still under 25% of the population.
