Why is there no Long Range Hunting archery section ?

Just for the sake of discussion- I’m not advocating for more long range shots but long range rifle hunting has become a popular activity and seems to be generally accepted among the hunting community. So why is it still a borderline taboo in archery ? Seems like a bit of a double standard to me…. All the same “what ifs” apply to a 100 yd archery shot apply to a 1000 yd rifle shot…

The large majority of rifle shouldn't be doing it either.

I'm imagining it more like an air strike than long range shooting once you get out there a couple hundred yards haha. Obviously a jokey joke. On a serious note, 40-50 yards and in has enough variables and very few people can shoot 100 proficiently, probably less than can shoot 1000 yards with a rifle.

Are you saying Levi Morgan should be restricting his shot to 40y.....while the avg bowhunter that picks up his bow right before the season, screws on BH's and goes and hunts is OK shooting 40y?

Anyone who wants to take 100 yard shots already does. Some 3d shooters are pretty good, but just like rifle shooters, many shooters show a target with usually three of their best shots and they declare it a good hunting distance. There’s a video online of the wind howling, the shooter is waving all over the place, and a nice tight 3 shot 100 yard group. lol

I love watching good shooters - show some good 10 shot 100 yard groups with broadheads and even a light breeze, and that’s impressive.

Just comparing the two and not necessarily an argument for or against, but just a comparison between rifle and archery.

The speed of sound is a major player in the difference discussion, all else being equal.

Lets say you have a bull at 100 archery and a bull at 1000 with a rifle. For the sake of the discussion we will leave out the other variables and assume they are accounted for and shooters are very proficient at said ranges. The rifle bull will never know the projectile is heading toward him until its to late. The archery bull will have aprox a second ( likely even more ) to react to either bow or arrow noise.

Same reason why there isn't a 80# section of the forum? For every post saying it's a waste of time, unnecessary, no one can do it properly, etc, there is someone saying they train year-round and they handle it fine and they in fact do.

I don't shoot long range when bowhunting but I do in practice. I can shoot respectable groups at 100m just fine, but I won't hunt that far as I don't believe my broadhead tunes and flight are robust enough to hunt that far.

Having said that, I'm just an average bloke. When I look at someone like Josh Bowmar and see how strong he is, how much he practices, and how easily he handles his bow, it's absolutely within the realm of possibility that he would be able to shoot significantly better than me at that distance. The same can be said for Levi Morgan (as Beendare brought up). Levi would shoot groups at 80 metres that make my 40 metre groups look stupid.

So my point is, I've got no business telling someone like Levi Morgan or Josh Bowmar that they shouldn't shoot a long way when their capabilities far exceed that of most bowhunters.

If you are shooting respectable groups at 100m you are way above average. The actual average shooter probably cant shoot a respectable group at half that distance.

1. Influencer poachers (any poachers for that matter but those in the public eye are more harmful to hunters) shouldn't be taking ANY shots at game no matter this distance.

2. I personally don't shoot at critters at 100 with my bow or 1000 with my rifle but I do understand that others are more proficient than I am. Unfortunately it's a case by case basis so what works for me doesn't carry much weight when discussing what someone else can do, as you mentioned above.
