Why high ES??

Re-reading, it might not be the load at all. What gun? It looks cold in your picture. I’ve had es spike in cold weather. I tracked it back to the excessive & inappropriate lube on the firing pin… my buddy in Texas built it & it was packed full of wagon wheel grease… or something similarly Texas.

This is going to get worse in the industry… everyone wants effortless cocking and short bolt throw. So we are going to smaller firing pin travel & lighter fp springs. I’d probably pull my firing pin, clean out all the grease & lube it with a low temperature gun oil.

It’s a AR. Probably should’ve mentioned that.

I’m going to load more up in some fired brass and see what comes of that. Seems to be the easiest thing to try first.

Not to denigrate ARs and their potential for accuracy… but I wouldn’t sweat an ES in the 50s. I’m sure there are some ARs that are capable of low ES and superb accuracy, but I don’t own any of them :)

There is a lot going on inside an AR that can impact ES. If you are getting ~1 moa I’d pick the powder that shoots the best (or the cheapest, or has the best flavored blowback if your shooting suppressed) and go shooting.
