Just because someone isn't doing something the way you do/did things doesn't mean they are wrong or your way was/is better.

You must just love arguing. There’s a lot of studies going on about how detrimental smart phones and devices are to a child's mental health. It’s a way for parents to keep their children occupied when they don’t want to deal with their shit. Do you have kids? Or kid with smart phones?

Yeah, but it’s not difficult to argue that these kids will live and work in a fully digital world and they need to be masters of this domain in order to succeed in the world they will live in.

We are of a different mindset on kids. My children are going to know their way around a computer but not be immersed in it. Many great careers in non tech industries. I worked IT support for 7 years. I don’t necessarily want that for my kids. We will be homeschooling.

I have two sons, 9 and 6. They don't have smart phones.

Kids are overwhelming regardless of the time you lived in. "Go outside and play" was the answer pre-technology. Your parent's didn't care if it did you any good, they were just over you bothering them and wanted a break.

Just because you think something is the right way doesn't mean that it is. I'd hate to be behind the technological curve as a child going into the future. It's going to progress at a very high rate.

Using smart devices does not mean someone is smarter with tech, it really can be quite the opposite. Tinkering with a pc, drives, coding, that is being good with tech. I wouldn’t say someone at a casino pulling the slot machine handle is being tech savvy, that’s pretty much the equivalent.

That’s a great drive by cop out, I am not you my friend. I value my kids upbringing more than anything in the world. I’m a stay at home dad, I’m in the drivers seat, my kids will never even see daycare.

That's awesome! Good for you. I hope you get everything you want out of it and the kids do too.

For 15 years, I coached a sport that was and still is very popular among home school families. Out of the literally dozens of home schooled kids I know personally, I've seen a few that turned out okay and didn't resent their parent's decision 10 years down the road. So I'd say you have a chance. I mean, parents today know so much more about what's better for their kids than anyone else does. Just ask 'em!

BTW, I don't coach that sport anymore because I refuse to work with home school parents anymore. I am a literal (not self-proclaimed) expert in that particular field, but every home school parent I worked with somehow knew more than I did about what I was coaching. Even with zero experience. It was incredible how much they knew. Just ask em!

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on things from your posts above, so I'm sure you'll do fine.

There is well-documented crossover between every generation. And even multiple generations. My mom was "technically" a "silent generation" being born in '41 and her parents were part of the "greatest generation" being born before '24. But my grandparents were so influential in the formation of my values that even though I'm early GenX (technically) I have some characteristics in common with my parent's and grandparent's generations. I don't relate well to boomers, and never have. Probably because I grew up listening to my grandparents and even my mom, talk down about "hippies" and "flower children." My oldest brother and sister are technically boomers. My oldest brother demonstrates a lot of classic "boomer" behaviors, and we just don't see eye to eye very often.

I don't get many Millennials, but I am not angry at them or blame them either. I actually relate pretty well to Gen Z'ers because our youngest is Gen Z and all her friends, and my wife is a HS teacher who teaches Gen Z'ers, so we know a lot of Gen Z kids, who mostly remind me of our generation to be honest. Only we had better music. LOL

There is also a big difference whether someone was raised in the country, in a small town, or in a major urban area. That will have as much of an affect on their perspective as their generation will IMO.

Much of the political divide we see today is not generational or even racial, but rather urban vs. rural values.
