Welp, back in Bethel after 13 days in 18 with Renfros. Had a great hunt with my two nephews. Saw 57 moose. Yes, 57. Of course, some were repeats on different days. Passed on lots of small bulls under 40 inches. Looking for good representative specimens. We saw 3 bulls 40-50”. None over 50. Made hunts on the bigger 3 and just missed out as they all slipped into the timber ahead of us. When they were headed somewhere we didn’t get much response to thrashing or calling.
Nephew ended up taking a meat bull in a good spot on the next to last day so we had some meat for the freezer.

Just got home from Unit 16 moose hunt. I ended up getting about a 43” bull. It was the only bull I seen with 1 cow and a bull that was raking back in the timber that never showed. There seemed to be lots of people most lakes had 2 camps on them and we had planes low flying our lake everyday looking for open spots. Probably Should have flown out the prior Thursday/ Friday instead of Monday. We learned there had been 2 for sure but maybe 3 bulls killed off our lake. We got the swamp hunt out of the way hope to do a float hunt in the future.

Nice job! I was in 16B. Two bulls within 1/2 mile but they never made a peep or came in. Tried to walk around and get on them but never ran into them. Not enough high ground to spot them. Lots of bears, and lots of planes but no other hunters in our area while we were there.

Learned alot. I might have to swamp hunt again!

Fairbanks 9-8. Bush 9-10. 2 weeks with a longbow. My bones ache to feel the Cub tires hit the airstrip.

How did it go with your longbow? Im taking mine but am 50-50 atm whether to stick with it or just get a legal bull down with a rifle when given the opportunity.
