Not yet. I wonder when ammo will be available. Seeing as the local Fleet Farm didn't have any 30-06, only 4 boxes of 7rm, no 6.5 Creedmoor, no 243, no 270. Tons of 223 and 556 and 308, seems like a lot of calibers need more ammo before they do a limited run of this exotic cartridge. Guess we'll find out.

If lapua made 8.6blk or 375raptor brass, I would be in heaven, but it's unlikely lapua would ever make 375raptor,but may make 8.6blk if hornady and others get behind it like 300blk.

I haven't done any case altering and like a "ready to go" case.

If I end up altering brass, either can be done with 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor in lapua.

Lapua recently announced it was cutting back production of some established cartridges. They won't be adding new cartridges until after the war ends.

Temporarily suspended cases:

4PH5002 - .222 Remington Match Brass
4PH5001 - .22-250 Remington Brass
4PH6022 - 6 mm Creedmoor Brass
4PH6010 - 6,5 x 47 Lapua Brass
4PH6020 - 6,5 mm Grendel Brass
4PH6030 - 6,5 x 284 Brass
4PH6050 - .260 Remington Brass
4PH7095 - 7 mm - 08 Remington Brass
4PH7105 - 7 x 64 Brass
4PH7107 - 7 x 65R Brass
4PH7284 - .284 Winchester Brass
4PH7226 - .308 Win Palma Brass (Small Primer)
4PH7215 - 7,62 x 53R Brass
4PH8030 - 8 x 57 IS Brass
4PH8031 - 8 x 57 IRS Brass

OH well, somebody like ADG may make brass for it. I'm just enjoying my 7saum for now. Maybe do a 8.6 build in a year or two.

I thing that I get hung up on are the bullets. 338 cal bullets are mostly designed for 338 win mag velocities and faster. I’ve seen several videos of folks shooting into gel and of course they penetrate well but they don’t have the bullets to show the (lack of) expansion.

I’ll ask Matt what he REALLY thinks next time I see him
Talked to Matt today. He said it’s a cool round and enjoyed it. But then said it doesn’t do anything in particular that others won’t but said he really enjoyed shooting it.

I don't think there are many/if any bolt action calibers that work well at 12" barrel length. I haven't seen any, anyways.

So the appeal to me is a suppressed 12" (19" with suppressor) 200 yard deer blind gun sounds sweet.

Lots of rounds work just fine with 12” barrels, to a lot farther than 200 yards.

Any capable of killing elk? What cartridge?

And the 8.6 is lethal farther than 200 yards, I'm just saying where I hunt deer, I only need 200 yards and a short weapon is desirable.

If you want to shoot farther than 200 yards, you need to adjust for the horrific bullet drop.

Most/all of them. 12.5” 6.5CM’s are easy 500 yard killing guns, and I and those I’m around have killed lots of game with 10.5” and longer 223’s.

I’ve used the 8.6 BO, and it serves no actual function. In subsonic, terminally they suck like all subs.

I wouldn't hunt elk with anything smaller than 7mm.

I'm not sure why you're trying to convince me I should buy a 6.5CM over the 8.6, but okay.......

🤷‍♂️. Ok. I see 15-20 killed a year with cartridges smaller than 7mm- they kill as fast as cartridges larger than 7mm.

I’m not. I addressed something you wrote to provide more information. The 8.6 BO is heavily comprised for nearly all uses. For killing, like all subs it produces narrow, deep wounds that most broadheads outclass, the trajectory sucks, precision is lacking/much harder to achieve and maintain, etc etc. Even in 12” barrels, basically every single normal cartridge is better for hunting.

I’m not against “new” cartridges by any stretch of the imagination, however outside of a use that no one on this board needs or is using it for, the 8.6 quite frankly sucks.

It doesn't help that people are buying everything up as soon as it hits the shelves. They are also ordering it online, which gets filled and what is left goes to the shelves. One of the people that work the gun counter in Point told me to order it online if I really wanted it.

Have you looked at the 375 Raptor. Seems like home brewing the brass is not that difficult and there are 375 bullets out there. Im not 100% sure but I don't think 375 Raptor suffers the draw back of high twist rate peeling jackets off of bullets.

I think a lot of people would need to buy a new can to fit the larger diameter bullets making for a very expensive build.

It is unfortunate there aren't more lightweight 338 suppressor options. I can vouch for AB Suppressor's Raptor, though. Similar profile and weight to the best titanium 30 cal cans but are available in 338 and 375 caliber.
