Whitetail Stand Jacket

What kind of hunting are you doing? Is it miles of access where you have to regulate body temperature, trying not to get sweated up? Layers are your friends. Today it was 21 here and 30-35mph winds. I go in light, setup, layer up and days like today I had to use my goggles, I use an old model jetstream, the durable one. But also had a base layer, gridded fleece, lightweight outter then my jetstream and vest, lower was a base, gridded fleece and first day using my new timberlines, had 400g boots, darn tough midweight socks. 3.7mile trek in. Made a 4 hr sit, had an opportunity on a 150-160” 10.

That's a long hike in! I'm primarily just focusing on archery rut hunting in northern PA. Usually no colder than the 20's with wind in the teens.

Windblocker is a must as well as something that is quiet for archery.

- The sleeves are longer on the riverwolf, and the zone 7 sleeves were a bit short on me (I’m 6’5 240).

- The riverwolf has hood adjustments unlike the zone 7.

- The cut and the actual fabric of the riverwolf feel much more mobile when drawing, reaching, twisting, etc. I felt constricted, especially in the shoulders, in the zone 7. Bc of this I can also layer much more comfortably in the riverwolf.

Those are my biggest advantages with the new jacket. The zone 7 is awesome, but I think my size and frame limited its benefits for me. The riverwolf feels like it was made for close range bow hunting

Do you feel like they handle the same temp ranges? If not, which one will handle the coldest temps?

PA mountain guy here. I have an original Fanatic jacket combined with the Stratus bibs that's my go to until it gets really cold. Im using the Kuiu Haven set after that. Each piece rolls up to about the size of a loaf of white bread in size L. It's not perfect but I really like the Haven set.

What do you consider really cold?

How much warmer is the kuiu haven?

Just get the fanatic and be done w it. I wear it with a core lightweight, and another thin layer and I’m perfectly comfortable into the teens in a tree stand. Take your walk in slow, or carry it in. But I tell everyone I get the chance that the fanatic jacket is the best money I’ve ever spent
If they ever change the zipper i'm all in but not until then.

I dont sit in a tree stand anymore but I did for 20 years. If I was going on a whitetail treestand hunt in cold weather I would buy what I used to wear after lots of trial and error.

An Artic Shield parka with their RETAIN liner fabric. They are cheap, they are by far the warmest piece of clothing I have ever worn. You could not walk around in those parkas if it was below zero degrees. I used to wear the bibs and parka down to single digits in NY and sit for 5+ hours at a time and be comfortable.

They are incredibly underated and deserve more praise.

Fanatics are my go to. The proximity set isn’t great as well but it’s not quite as warm as the fanatics. I would suggest carrying both to the tree, then putting them on.

Fanatic is hard to beat because it’s made for that.
Or down jacket and pants under the stratus.
I know down is better not compressed but that’s a good option.
