Is a solid color like gray, brown, etc a detriment to successfully hunting whitetails on the ground (without a manufactured ground blind)?

You can kill deer wearing bright orange or yellow or blue or anything... Break up your outline, don't move and make sure the wind is in your favor.

I killed this buck on the ground last fall in Colorado. 17 yards. I was wearing camo. But movement is key. I don't use uv spray or that silly scent killer stuff. I use the wind.

Thay's an awesome kill Justin! My gear is going to less and less camo so I can wear for other things but I really have an itch for ground hunting-- beats carrying a climbing treestand so wanted to get ideas.

I killed this buck on the ground last year, 23 yards.... No blind, just didn't move much. Get the wind right and it usually comes together.

If you want the ultimate in ground sitting camo you need a ghilie suit. The commercial ones are not too expensive and the one I had was not too heavy. At least not as heavy as I thought it would be. Worked great as long as you didn't move . I've had turkeys at the end of my feet sitting on the ground that didn't make me out. Had a big bobcat just three feet off my toes that didn't have a clue. Looked right at me and stared right through me. Totally erased my outline.

Way to go Nick! Love to see these pictures.

On the ghillie suit, how does it to w/ a bowstring, seem to stay outta the way?
