7 SAW

Anyone built a 7 SAW on a long action? I have a Cooper 280AI that doesn't get much love anymore that I'm thinking about repurposing for something.

I've got a Stiller LA that has a .280AI tube on it at the moment with around 1500 rounds on it. I'm probably going to spin up a 7 SAW barrel for it since I have the type II reamer, just haven't got around to it yet as the .280 still has some life left.

The 7 SAW dummy rounds I've loaded up cycle just fine from the BDL set up. My gunsmith buddy has a .308 built on a rem 700 LA and it feeds butter smooth too.

You should be fine rolling with the LA, imo.

Good deal. I *think* I want to convert to M5 bottom metal but may do BDL. Need to confirm I can get a wood Rokstok inletted for it, I don't think its much different from a Rem 700 at all.

my rifle isn't loving 162 eldm, with 4350 at 44 gr it was pretty slow at 2620 fps (22" 1:8.5 barrel) and was pretty crunchy when loading. Used this as my break in starter load assuming it would be ok since that is the starting load for 4350 on the WTO site. Swapped over to Varget from 41.0 to 43.0 with 42.6 showing really low es and sd at 2780 fps. Did a seating depth test at .003" increments and didn't find anything better than 1 inch....

My question is, Am I shooting these 162's too fast with Varget? Should I try loads from 39.0 to 41.0 then retry the seating depth test or should I swap to another bullet/powder combo. Was thinking of trying 168 gr Berger Hunting VLD or maybe something in the 175 gr range next?

Thanks for the help
