Which youth LEFTY rifle?

Didn't want to hijack the which youth rifle thread. Looking for 7mm-08, 6.5cm, 243 or the like for my left eye dominant 10 year old. I have a tough time finding left-handed rifles with compact stocks. This will be suppressed but doesn't have to be threaded I can have that done.

Browning made a left hand xbolt in a youth model called the micro midas. You may be able to track one of those down.
The other option is to cut down an existing stock to fit him better.
If you want to go the tikka route, I may have a t3 stock laying around.

The easy button is the new Savage Axis 2 Pro. It comes in lefty, compact, and threaded. If you're not a Savage fan, and you're not worried about threading, there was a lefty Browning Micro Midas 7mm08 in the classifieds a little while back. Not much besides Savage with a shorter LOP without chopping or replacing stocks.

That's really tough. I'm right handed but shoot left and my son shoots right. Luckily I was able to grab a 223 Tikka T3x for him and it's been stellar. I'd recommend that but I believe they're extremely hard to get if not unobtainable in left handed models.

Here's an oddball suggestion. Proof has started to come out with their left handed models. They use a Bighorn Origin action. You could buy one in 6 creed, dismantle it, buy a new bolt head and barrel for it in .223. When he gets more comfortable and bigger, you can swap them back out for the 6 creed. It'd definitely be a rifle he would have forever and the modularity is unmatched.

I went this route for my lefty guns but pieced it together myself.

If not, one of the rugers or something similar might be a better option. I think they're available in lefties too.

I bought the CVA Hunter in .243 flavor once my son came into this world. My thinking was every kid needs a single shot rifle as one of their first firearms. I knew he could shoot it either handed, right or left. He turned out to be right eye dominant. The little single shot is heavy enough, that recoil wasn’t an issue. Once he outgrew it, I threaded the barrel and use it myself come rifle season for some sits myself.

I notched out a right hand tikka youth stock for the bolt on the left side. Saw a post about it on here, it was very simple.

T/C ProHunter. My son is a lefty, and they are ambidextrous. Plus, you can pick your caliber by just changing the barrel. Cons: Pricey and you have to find one.

I thought the Axis II just came out? Maybe you have the original Axis

Dragging my thread back up. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a savage axis II lefty compact. The Pro comes with a heavier 20" barrell cerakoted and threaded but is 6.7 lbs. The model down is about $100 cheaper, blued and not threaded but 6.3 lbs, which is Tikka light territory. I could buy the cheaper one and have it cut to 18" and be spending about the same. Pro would be easier but I worry 6.7 lbs is a little stout for a youth? Any opinions?

I know I'm late to the party, but my 10 yr old is a lefty.

My state also just went to Straight Wall cartridges a yr or two ago. So I went with a 350L for both my kids. We unfortunately can't use supressors either.

My kids have shot .22s and .17s and 223s at prairie dogs. Theyve practiced with a .410 for turkeys. I looked at recoil charts and a 3 inch .410 turkey load kicks around 9-11 ft/lbs. Last year recoil for the .410 was a little sharp for my little girl, but she managed.

Well the book on the 350L says its a 8-10 ft/lb recoil. Which is just like the book on the .410

So I went with the 350L.

On Black Friday, Fleet Farm was running a clearance sale on Axis'.

I got two Savage Axis', one Right handed and one Left handed. They were marked down from $350/$400 down to $300 and they were running 20% off clearance plus $50 off if it was ordered online, PLUS Savage was running their $75 mail in rebate.

Came out to $125 per gun!

They each came with a cheap Weaver Scope that I tried just to get me through the winter, but I threw them away after load testing because it wouldnt hold zero.

As luck would have it, I found an online dealer running another Black Friday sale for a 3-9x40 Bushnell Banner with the BDC reticle for $25!

Theres a couple YouTube Videos about how to shorten the one inch spacer on the stock with a few minor cuts in the butt pad. AND I can always add the 1 inch spacer as they grow.

Put an M*Carbo trigger kit ($25) in them to lessen the trigger to 3.5 lbs and a Desh Bolt Lift Kit ($25).

So for basically $200/per gun I have two youth Axis in 350Ls that will grow with my kids, trigger job, bolt lift kit and a semi-decent scope! Can't complain at all!
