Cold outside and I'm sitting here day dreaming. Question for the gallery.
I've never hunted sheep and probably can't afford to, but I like to dream.

With the dall sheep now approaching 50 to 60 grand, this puts them at some parity with free range desert bighorn hunts in Mexico.

If a guy decided the money was available, and both hunts were fair chase, mountain type adventures, which one would you choose ? and why ?

I haven’t hunted deserts, so know that, but I’ve been in a lot of country that holds deserts and I’d choose dalls every day, all day. I’ve killed a few dalls and I’m heading back next year to try again. There is something awesome about thin horn country. Literally my favorite places in the world are where thin horns are found.

I would choose Dall as well. Similar reasoning to USMC.. I have never killed one however I have seen them in Alaska. Been dreaming of hunting them in those beautiful mountains ever since.

when it was cold outside this week we reached -42c over -40f trust me i was not in sheep hunting mood lol but i can understand your goal for me it is always dall or fannin as it is the most affordable and still OTC so far ...

I have only sheep hunted once. I would not hesitate to go back north for dall sheep.
Having someone show you pictures or talk about the mountains up north doesn't do them justice, in my opinion.

I don't know why, but I have no interest to hunt desert bighorns.

Those chocolate horns on those Sonoran rams are bad ass but, if I can only do one then Dalls because of the country they are in. However, I’m going to work my ass off to hunt all 4 NA sheep species.

Different Sheep hunting environments offer vastly different experiences - Desert Sheep was fun and challenging in its own right, but my Northern Canada Sheep Hunts offered a greater sense of adventure / true wilderness experience. If finances are such that it’s got to be a one-and-done with no chance of returning, I’d book a NWT Dall Hunt. Greater sheep density and less prone to have the hunt destroyed by weather than some other Dall areas.

In your situation I would recommend a NWT Dall sheep hunt.

I hunted one there in 1999 and it was a great above timberline hunt where I was also able to hunt a Mountain caribou and a wolverine.

Only one thinhorn for me, but if I somehow could pick between another Dall or a DBH I’d take another trip up north for sure.

Do the Dall, the real deal experience. Mexico is turning into a high fence low mountain "hunt" for a pen raised farm animal.

Gamble - desert hunt prices probably stay flat or come down a bit, while Stones, Dalls and BH keep going up

Never hunted desert sheep but I have hunted coues in MX 2 times and lived in AK and hunted dalls
I would go dall 100%
After my last trip to MX I will never hunt there again or probably even go there again
They can have it
