Which traditional arrows?

Started off with aluminum and I think they are by far the easiest to tune.
Moved to carbon for durability and have shot a ton of gold tips, mostly blems.
Currently shooting gold tip traditional classics.

I have been looking pretty close at the Easton carbon legacy arrows. I have always shot 5 feathers so I am not sure how much difference there would be with the 4" that comes on them. might just have to buy some and find out.

I am down to 2" × 4 feathers. Carbons are consistent enough that I can steer a simmons head well with those little feathers.

If you pay attention to these things;
Woody's(we mill them from raw stock) take about 15' out of typical recurve weights/measures to *return to zero.

Aluminum will almost cut that in half....

Carbon will shave a cpl feet more off than aluminum.

I shoot aluminum because they're easier to pull out of 3D targets.... plus they're a touch easier to tune. Woodys just don't like wet weather. Get carbons tuned,they can be amazing.

*return to zero is how fast the arrow recovers from the launch. A pandora's box of criteria though. Release,how jacked up the rig is,poundage,arrow weights,etc.

So many great arrows out there. I have mainly used Goldtip Traditional and Easton Axis but I am going to order some Safari-tuff Taipans because they have a lower GPI in weight and I shoot fairly light bows and can get an arrow with good point weight but not too heavy. I think that is going to be a really popular arrow.

I’m gonna say stick with wood. I have switched back to wood arrows this year. I shot wood for many, many years and wanted to tune a few carbons as backup for wood arrows on remote hunting trips. Well that led me down the rabbit hole shooting carbons and aluminum for a few years and they worked fine. I just decided that I was going back to the wood arrows and felt that that is where the mojo is at for me.

I use the gold tips a lot but just got some taipans from safari tuff for my new psa. It’s pretty convenient the way they include footers and inserts up to 100grains and they are alittle lighter than the axis gpi

I shoot the Victory Archery Carbon trad arrows. The look is so close to a wood arrow, it matches two of my custom takedowns.
The .550 spine would work very well from your 50 pound recurve. I use the 550 spine from my 52 pound bow with 175 grains up front. Gives me a heavy arrow without having to load the front up.
The 550 spine is between a .600 spine and a .500 spine. A great shaft for the low 50's bows.

I hunt with old Patriot Carbons. I shoot does with some old 2016 XX75 I found in my mess a few years back.

You have a lot of choices and I’ve tried and shoot all of them for fun or small game. Every year my hunting arrows are made from wood, mostly cedar some spruce and this year ash. With about 35 years in traditional archery, I love shooting wood arrows for deer. They’re quiet to carry around and quite to shoot. I never loose parts of them and simple to repair. I enjoy making a dozen new arrows every hunting season.

I love woodies and have sitka spruce, POC, ash, Doug Fir, and a couple odd birch shafts lined up for the fall. But I also have some dark timber carbons ready to go too. I shoot 5 -7 different bows and the carbons seem fly well out of all of them - which I can't say about my woodies.

400 spine Gold Tip Traditionals cut to 29.5, 200gr 3 Blade VPA, 100gr Gold Tip Insert. 5 Inch wraps, 4 inch trad vanes left offset x 3.

Ive been shooting XX75s for the last 10 years out of my recurve, Ive messed around with a few different carbons and woodies but I always go back to the aluminums. Seem to tune very easy and it is a great way to get a great hunting weight arrow for a very good price. I four fletch mine with 4 inch feathers and shoot two different broadheads and they fly great.
