So Im at a crossroads, and can not decide. Looking for opinions. Golite Shangri la 5 or BearPaw Luna 5. both will cost about the same. One comes with a nest, which if used would be heavier but would only be used when not packing in. The other is made out of 30d silnylon vs the golite using 15d. Hard to tell, but from picks looks like the Luna 5 is square, the golite not exactly. Luna5 has stove jack, golite will need one installed. Grrrr.......my brain hurts trying to decide.

I can all but guarantee the kifaru will be a $100 more than the more expensive option mentioned. Just sayin. That wasn't an option mentioned by the OP.

Can you comment on the pros and cons of each?

Mainly the 15d vs 30d fabric; little more water resistant in the Bearpaw. The nest wasn't worth much to me as I couldn't get all of the family in the SL5 with the corner cut off of the nest, and I like the doors on the Luna better (open both ways).

Did you have a problem with water leaking through on your SL-5 or it tearing due to being only 15D?? Just wondering cause I've used an SL-5 since beginning of 2010 so this will the 5th season with one and still shows no signs of leakage (after seam sealed) or tearing.

Luke, does your SL5 have taped seams on the inside? Mine does and I was just curious if they started doing that at a later point. I guess sealing the seams on the outside wouldn't hurt anyway but I just haven't seen the need yet.

Ours is seam taped, but still developed a slight leak at the point where the guy outs are sew through the seams. Not something you would notice unless you were in a torrential downpour that didn't let up. We were...for multiple nights of a 110 mile hiking/pack rafting trip in 2010, and the dripping was annoying enough that we seam sealed the whole tent inside and outside once we got home. No further issues whatsoever. It's now standard procedure for us to seam seal all shelters inside and out prior to use, regardless of whether they are seam taped or not.

Yes taped seams...still leaked in a heavy rain the first season we used it back in 2010...seam sealed after that trip...no troubles since. I always seam seal both inside and outside of any tent I'm taking the time to seam seal.

Any comment from the Moffats regarding the pros & cons of sl5 vs. pentalite? Do you notice the increased square footage? Better layout for stove utilization?
