I know that the consensus is darn tough socks, but which version does every one seem to prefer?

I actually had a bad go with darn tough socks. I stumbled upon this snow boarding brand called "Stance". Best wool socks I've ever had. They had an elastic portion around the arch that I like a lot and they dont shift around on my foot at all and I dont have any issues keeping them up around my calf when walking. Another big plus for me. Go to their "snow" section and make sure you're getting the merino wool, not their poly blend. At $18-$20 it's worth trying a pair out. I just bought five more pairs. I've had my original pair since the summer and haven't worn them out yet. And I hunt hard and often, and when I find a pair of socks I like I'm pretty tough on 'em.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

I actually used first lite compression and their colder version. I really like them a lot. Super comfy. Warm. The compression felt great around the calf.

I got their standard cushioned merino boot socks for CO September archery hunting and couldn't keep the "darn socks" from bunching up inside my boots. I'd literally have to stop several times a day and take my boots off and pull them up tight again. Now I use Smartwool Classics and they stay put the entire day without any issues at all.

But ya, it seems the consensus loves them darn socks.

I love my DT. I like the thicker ones (Full Cushion I think). I also like the knee high. They keep their shape super well, no bunching, etc. If you don't have to get some now keep an eye out on SocksAddict.com. I got my current ones for $14 per pair (down from $24).

Darn Tough Hiker Mids. Love to hear about your Darn Tough experience. Never had to send in my socks for replace yet. =-) I only wear Darn Tough

I have the DT 4103's. These are my every day sock regardless of season for the last 4 or 5 years. I snagged one pair and tore a hole in them. DT replaced them for free. I've had the socks slip down but only in my pull on boots.

I did pick up a pair of FirstLite compressions and the cold weather socks. So far I've only used the compression sock. I like them but they haven't replaced DTs yet. They do go over the calf and they stay put regardless of what style of boot I have on. After 3 days of use though on a single pair of the FLs they will slide to the bottom of my calf.

Loving my darn tuffs this season !
Added a pair of farm to feet to the mix as well...they are top shelf very very nice

I still love the Kirkland Signature socks from Costco, they're 70+% merino wool, and at $12 for a pack of 4, are practically cheap enough to wear once and throw away. They also seem to wear very well, I believe I've only thrown away 2 or 3 socks in 10 years.

I wear darn toughs everyday on the job by default, not a huge fan. Otherwise i just wear the costco socks like couesbitten said. Work fine for myself and a pretty hard price to beat for the quality
