Which rifle for fun?

I’m looking at two Savage rifles for some long range fun. Trying to decide which one to go with. Caliber would be 6.5 Creedmoor. I will be handloading.

1. Savage 10 GRS. The GRS stock is super comfortable. Not sure about the AICS mag with the 2.88” COAL length limit? I like the threaded muzzle as I might add a brake. 24” barrel. Can be had for around $1100

2.Savage 12 Long Range Precision. Nice stock though not adjustable. Magazine allows for seating to touch the lands. Target action and Target trigger. 26” barrel. No muzzle threading. Priced around $1000.

Thoughts?

I'd take option #2. Barrel threading and/or cut & crown is pretty cheap if you ever feel the need. The 12 LRP is a nice, clean, low profile looking rifle which I particularly like. The few I've handled seemed like a decent factory trigger and I like fluted barrels. They are pigs but that should negate the possible need of a brake. That $100.00 savings is a nice set of rings or a Harris bipod right there.

I haven't had the Savage 12 LR Precision out a lot, that's why the "performance" section is a little short. As I shoot more, I can post averages better. I was using Hornady Match 120gr. AMax's . I'd love to get into handloading, but the start-up cost is something I'll have to save up for.

The LRP has the threaded barrel nut for easy barrel switch out. Reason enough why I’d pick it over the GRS. All the serious bench rest/F Class guys who shoot Savages run the old style barrel nut. The new smooth ones are a nightmare to get off.

If it is just for fun, I would highly recommend the Savage 12FV

Cabela's runs specials on from time to time. The sale price when I bought my 12FV was $350, not including the $100 mail in rebate, coupon, and points I used which dropped it significantly more.

Topped it with a Leupold VX-III with Warne Rings n Bases.

Shot great with factory stock but opted to upgrade to a Boyd's Pro Varmint stock. Shoots even better in this stock (sub moa out to 500, and probably more but I have not shot past 500 with it)

All in all, very affordable rifle that give you a lot of freedom to "play" and "build" with. Along with the quality and product we expect from Savage.

I have the 12fv in 6.5 creed (and 223) both shoot very tight. But for the most fun I turn to a 6.5 Grendel AR

My buddy was looking for a “fun” gun and ended up with the savage long range hunter in 338 alpha magnum. I forget what scope he put on it but it is friggin sweet.
