Which location has better odds to encounter a bear?

Which location has better odds to encounter a bear?

Would you be looking for a "Encounter" inside the tent, or outside the tent....???

Hard to beat Alaska if only looking for "Encounter"..........;)

If a person just wants to get chewed'on, my guess is Idaho would be the better of the options you proposed..😊

Well played Sourdough, I guess I am trying to keep my expectations in check for my first bear hunt. I am not even sure if I will be able to do a scouting trip ahead of time. So I am assuming I will end up having a week-long hike with my bow rather than actually harvest a bear, but I have to start somewhere.

Wishing you success and fair weather on your hunt.

I can't speak for Arizona, but I can say that coming to Idaho and starting from ground zero is definitely tough. There are a lot of bears in Idaho, and the timing can really be everything, but I've often gone out for a few days in known bear spots that experienced friends have pointed me to, and not seen any bears. I definitely think it's worth the 3 days, even just for the experience, but definitely manage those expectations. Best of luck!

Idaho will have more bears than Arizona. You'll need to know what the bears want to be eating and then go find it.

We do have both a season and annual female harvest limit. Call before you come as depending on what is going, such as "bears in the pears", the quotas can be filled quickly in several of the units.
