Yes we did figure out the issue with the scope. The gun fits pretty tight in the UTV gun case. As we removed the gun from the case or possibly inserted the gun prior to removal, it grabbed the turret and over rotated it a complete turn and then some more. Before the shot, we looked at the turret and returned it back to zero thinking it was never reset (zero set vs zero stop). Then, after ranging the buck we bumped it up to 1.25.
After the emotions from the misses settled down we were able to process and figure out what happened. The second encounter with the buck, the two shots were spot on.
Hopefully others learn from our mishaps. Always check your turret. Don't buy a scope with a zero set, pay more money and get one with a Zero Stop. The scope I have is the Nightforce SHV and it will actually stop past the 0 but is a few clicks away.
Second, use turret caps or something to protect the turret if you are putting the gun in a gun sleave while on an atv/UTV.
Third, more range time would have helped. You can never be too familiar with your gun.
