6 Creed is the easy route to do-all. Great factory ammo in 108's ELD-M or 80 ELD-VT. Can shoot 20"-24" barrel out as far as you want flat with very little recoil (especially suppressed) all in a .308 bolt face.

What kind of velocities are you seeing with that cartridge?
In a bolt gun my favorite 6mm is my 6-284 but the easy button favors the 6mm Creedmoor and 243 Win. In an AR type gun I'd go 6 ARC.

I fully intended to do a 6x284....but after seeing the results from this last xc I spun up, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. The xc gets 3100 with that long 106 tap and shoots it VERY well. I can't give up 1k shots of barrel life and eat the extra 10-15 grs for another 1-200fps.

Yesterday I cold bored a 10" @ 1485 with the xc. That's plenty for me.

Which cartridge are you asking about my 6-284 or 6mm Creedmoor?

My 6-284 has a Lilja 12tw barrel finished at 26 and I'm shooting 75gr Vmax right at 3700 using H4350. I'm sure I could switch to RL26 and shoot the same bullet up around 3800-3900 but the load I have for it with H4350 shoots crazy good as well as I have a couple hundred loaded up with that load to burn through first. Also, this is NOT a fur friendly bullet as it almost always leaves them with rather big holes.

My 6 CM has a 9tw 20in Proof CF barrel and I've been shooting 70gr Nosler BT's w/RL16. It's not super speedy only around 3400 but it shoots extremely well with that load.

I sorry I meant the 6-284. That’s impressive. Should be able to push the coppers fast enough.

How’s brass situation for the 6-284?

I have a tikka donor rifle that I’m struggling to decide what to rechamber/rebarrel it in. It’s currently a brand new 243. Also I’m not sure what I want this rifle to do.

I was looking through Shootingbot - looks like only Nosler 6.5-284 and Peterson 284 are readily available new. On Gun Broker there’s a good supply of new old Hornady and new old Winchester.

Thank you very helpful. The regular 284win has me intrigued as well.

Assumed you meant the 6-284 but well we all know what happens when we assume.

If I could only keep one rifle that's in my safe it would be my 6-284 so it's pretty safe to say I am a huge fan. Actually, I'm a fan of just about anything based off of the 284 case.

Your Tikka should work pretty well as a donor and I'd think a smith could rechamber that 243 barrel to 6-284 pretty easily if you wanted to repurpose that factory barrel. Depending on what bullet/s you plan to us the only thing you may have to do is put a longer bolt stop in and get a 270Win or 30-06 magazine so you'd have plenty of length. I'm sure any good gunsmith would know which reamer to use but there's lots of different 6-284 reamers out there. When I was first talking to the smith that built mine about building me a 6-284 one of the first things he asked me was if I was using a short or long action because he had different freebore lengths depending on what length action people were using so if you have plenty of length you wouldn't want to use a reamer that's for a short action.

For dies you can get specific 6-284 dies or you can use a bushing 6.5-284 die with the correct size bushing. I use Redding dies for mine. I neck down 6.5-284 brass to 6-284 in one pass it's easy peasy.

If you're looking for brass I have a couple hundred pieces of new unfired Norma 6.5-284 brass I'd sell someone if they're interested.

What's your barrel length and twist?
What's your load of varget?
I am running an 87 vmax at 3300 with 39gr varget out of a 22 " 1-7.5" proof
26" 7.5t factory Bergara Premier HMR Pro. No longer make it in 6creed.
Lapua 6.5 brass necked down, CCI 200 primers, 42.6gr Varget, 70 gr SBKs 2.092" CBTO.

Not much can beat the versatility of the .243 honestly. I have a 6 cm that is getting work at Ruger. Once it gets back I'm going to try that.
