300 win mag justin, you know you want to :)
I'll echo Ryan's post on the 300 RUM with 230 bergers. That much powder charge is just more efficient with the heavier bullets!!

For those who don't know, a 300 RUM and a 30-378 do not fit in a Tikka action.

Both are great rounds but not what I'm looking for with this build.

This is the truth. I have been the 30-378 route on a few builds and also 300 RUM's and 30-338 Lapuas. They are a caliber of diminishing returns until you stuff a 230 in them.

But to the OP, I feel pretty confident the 300 win and a 215 is the best choice for the Tika platform.

put a ABS carbon fiber barrel on it and that will drop a pound off of it, thats what is on mine but the barrel is also $800. Are you dead set on a 30 cal. 7wsm have some awesome ballistic and the bc on the bullets are higher than about anything out there. just my thoughts.

i also have had problems with my rum that the primer pockets stretch out so bad and could only get 2-3 rounds out of them before the brass was shot. when i tryed to seat the primer it just fell out.

I'm going with a Hells Canyon Custom Carbon barrel. I want a .300 because I already have a 6.5-06AI.

I'll probably do a 7mm in the future too though.

I am very happy with the 6.5-06AI. In fact my brother is building one just like mine as we speak.

My hunting load is a 140 Berger VLD at 3165 fps. I can get more speed out of it but this is working pretty well for now.

I have never even been to a shooting match. I wouldn't mind doing one but I'm sure I would get my butt kicked!

For me it would be .300 RUM if I didn't have to contend with the Tikka action.
.300 Win Mag if I was limited by the Tikka action.

Justin- doing not very good in a match means nothing to most people there. I go out trying to learn how to better myself in real life hunting experience that's why I do it. It's a great learning tool and everyone love to help. So don't let places intimidate you. I didn't do very good last year but learned a ton of things including angle inclination, wind and gaining confidence when hunting.

Couldn't of said it better. Matches are great practice and depending on the type, they put you into some uncomfortable and difficult shooting positions. And I've seen plenty of guys running blind mags and single feeding after they run out. You don't lose much time with a hunting rig but that's not the point.

Well I just got the rifle back and figured I would throw up a couple quick pics. I plan to have a load built for it over the next couple of weeks so it will be ready to take spring bear hunting at the end of the month. I haven't weighed it yet, but here are a few of the specs.

Tikka T3 action with trigger adjusted to 2 lbs.
Hells Canyon Carbon barrel. 300 Win Mag finished at 25"
Seekings Muzzle brake
Pendleton Stocks, Long Range Hunter
Xtreme Hardcore Gear, Tru Level rail
Leupold rings (waiting for my Talley rings to show up)
Nightforce SHV MOA 1000
