I get a 5 lbs tub of NurtiCost whey protein every 6 weeks on a subscription discount. Recently the price has increased from around $50 to $65, then $75 and just noticed that my upcoming delivery is $86 on discount with a retail price of $101.

I believe I have to bow out.

Looked back at my order history. 2023 has ~$65. Early 2025 was $72. April 26 was $90.

Inflation and "beautiful" tariffs (and Iran War/oil prices (oil prices impact everything) I'm sure.

My previous orders were amazon. My April 26 was Walmart (it was the cheapest place I could find at the time, was like there was a huge shortage).

When I bought my tub on amazon I couple days ago I felt like it was more than normal but didn't look into it. Saw this and sure enough it had gone up a few bucks

I ask because lately I've been noticing quite a few things cheaper in store than on Amazon.
Just last week there have been two subscriptions (these were vitamin supplements) of mine that I've cancelled since they were (substantially) less in store.
But the cost of everything has gone up as well so who knows?
Do keep in mind too that Amazons business model has always been to get people so used to using them and then with time to incrementally increase pricing. Amounts that people wouldn't notice and/or were too lazy to check in store to even see if it was still more expensive than Amazon. This is part of the reason Amazon was losing money in its earlier years.

I heard a news story on radio recently discussing this. Whey protein is a byproduct of making cheese. Cheese production is down due to lower domestic use and higher tarrifs. The increased use of GLP-1 medications for diabetes treatments and weight loss treatments has caused doctors to suggest that people start to use whey protein as a dietary supplement since the medication can cause muscle loss. This in combination with more people trying to lead healthier lifestyles that include supplements and workouts has cause an estimated demand increase of 75-80 percent over the demand from 5 years ago. Whey protein used to be a cheap and easy way to add more protein to your diet. I don't think that we will ever see it fall back to previous price levels.

I like the levels protein powder from Costco. Its $75 but goes on sale into the 60s.
