Where to tag elk

I'm going on my first elk hunt later this month to Colorado on an OTC either sex tag and have what may be an amateurish question. When doing a gutless de-bone in the field, where do you attach the tag to a cow?

I also want to say I have gotten a ton of information and gear ideas from the folks on this website, so thanks a bunch!

On a cow I use a wire tie and secure around/through some of the skin from the evidence of sex. Make sure you mark that game bag so when your checked you dont have to open every bag searching for the tag and evidence!

Yep, attach to the same hind quarter that has evidence of sex attached. I've used twine or parachute cord and just cut a small hole in the skin to work it through and tie a knot.

If you take one out whole or quartered I use a zip lock bag and electrical tape and attach it to one of the hind quarters at the tendon. It won't come off and if the game warden wants to check your tag it's not such a hassle.
