I'd like to get my Marlin 336 threaded so I can suppress it. I know the magazine tube will need to be shortened and the front sight relocated. I'm looking for recommendations for smith to do the work.

Any machinist gunsmith can do this work, but most just tell you no because people freak out when they hear how much it'll cost. You have a crown and threading job, a sight hole job, a indexed magazine attachment, shortened magazine and spring, action tear down/rebuild and refinishing.....assuming the forend furniture doesn’t need modding.

Screwing up any one of those tasks turns this into a go broke job.....so if you start the conversation by telling the smith that you know it's a 4 digit job....you might get a taker.

Expect at least $1200.00 to have it done right.

You might consider a Rossi that is already to your specs. They are not super expensive and they have really upped their game from the junk they had in the 80's and 90's. There is a R95 Triple Black 30-30 sitting here that has a 16" threaded barrel from the factory. Good sites, good trigger, easy to scope and it's a great shooter. Maybe leave your 336 unmolested? Just an idea.
