Had my T3X cut and threaded did I screw up

Definitely not saying its shit work. It does have a small cut/face where the threads end and I thought it was good but someone noticed it at the range and said something to me at the sportsmans club. Id have never questioned it otherwise.

The kind that tells ya Dead air sucks, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if I had a strike cause they have unreliable tooling. Should have been my first clue. He got me, I’m a rookie - was my first.
I mean to be fair, dead air does suck.

Do you need a shoulder - not necessarily. I have one till cut to 18” and threaded 1/2x28 with an adapter to get it to 5/8x24

I also have one I sent to Kampfeld that looks like this - both work but aesthetically I prefer the latter.

I take it you have had some negative experience with Dead Air?

Yes. All cards on the table, a dead air sandman s was my first suppressor purchase. At the time I thought they were top dog in the industry. But between keymo ratchet failures, and warranty/ customer service issues, I wouldn’t buy another from that company. it’s telling when companies like otter creek now have to specify they won’t warranty their suppressor if you use keymo.

Maybe their new stuff is okay but I won’t buy anything from them again.

Steve has been known in AR-15 circles for decades, especially for threading barrels. I'll reserve judgement on his work, as I've never used his services, but will say that he has a big following.

He was recently the defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit where, I believe, he sold a firearm to a guy who later provided it to a female friend who committed suicide with it.

ADCO Wrongful Death Lawsuit

ADCO is very clear that they thread exactly as you request, so you get 5/8" without shoulder unless you ask for and pay for the shoulder. Here's my 19" 5/8" threaded with shoulder Tikka that I received from them last month, exactly as requested. I expect that they could still add a shoulder to your barrel for a surcharge.

The wrongful death lawsuit is irrelevant to muzzle threading or quality of CNC work by ADCO.

The world would be a lot better place if people shot more and actually saw if the nonsense they worry is a “worry” at all.

There are zero actual issues with a T3 lite barrel being cut to 19” and threaded 5/8x24. Every single S2H class rifle was cut to 20” and threaded 5/8x24 and shot 100% suppressed. Several hundred thousand rounds on rifles just classes.

Hundreds of thousands of rounds across dozens and dozens and dozens of rifles. Stop repeating things you don’t have actual experience in.

I had my Stainless 30-06 T3X cut to 19” and threaded 5/8x24 for my Dead Air Ti XC can but the gunsmith didn’t put a shoulder on it, it’s just threaded. Its worked fine, I’ve only shot it 15-20 times but no problem. Is there an issue not having a shoulder or reinforcing area? I’ve been reading other threads that say it’s needed on that barrel profile. I am kinda disliking the short ‘06 so rebarrelling wouldn’t hurt my feelings. I’d send it off for a 6 creed.

Shoot the rifle, there is nothing wrong with it. Thread the can on until it stops, if everything looks fine- go live your life.

I tried to get my 16" Tikka threaded 5/8 ×24 here in Az. After calling 3 reputable smiths, that all advised against it, I went with 1/2 × 28" and an adapter. Other option was adding a shoulder, which I chose not to do because I was worried about OTB suppressor clearance, plus I think some are fugly.
Same I shoot my 6.5 cm direct thread to a can with a 1/2x28 hub

I simply asked if I should have had a shoulder installed, thanks to those who had helpful advise.
There’s a whole other thread that talks about cutting into flutes, threading etc. Form has dealt with a lot of misinformation in the past, don’t take it personally.

Now if you can’t stand the short 30-06 I don’t blame you. Id recommend 6cm. You can either get one from @hereinaz or order from preferred barrels direct and send your action in. If you want a deal on a proof 6cm shoot me a message.

The top part of my post was not to you. The bottom was. There is nothing functionally wrong with your barrel or threading. Screw the can on and go shoot.

Had a T3X lite .223 cut to 16” and threaded 5/8-24 few months ago. Plenty of guys on here questioned it and claimed it was a bad idea. Minimal shoulder but it’s there. Been thru nearly 2 full bulk cans of AAC 77 grain OTMs since then and quite a few TMKs too. Works like a champ.

Could you still post a pic of you get a chance, please? I’d still like to see how those threads terminate.

Are you saying all those rifles are shoulder-less similar to the website screenshot? I’m still curious what the intended mating surfaces are in that case?

Considering getting a 20" 30.06, have you checked your velocity from that 19" barrel?
I’ve got an 18” 30-06, li can get right at 2700fps with a 180g partition or accubond. I just one load for that gun but I go back and forth from partitions (because I have a lot of them) and accubonds.

I haven’t read where OP said it was ADCO that threaded his barrel. It was suggested he send it there to have a relief cut done for a shoulder. Maybe I’m blind though?

It would be negligent on the part of the smith to not have a relief cut at the terminus of the threads to provide a square shoulder for the can to tighten against. As long as there is a sufficient step, it will lock down square.
