Ive been searching for a Tikka t3x stainless in 7mm-08, they seem impossible to find. I see some T3s on occasion, just not the T3x, unless I want to backorder.

I guess my question is does anyone know where to find one? If I backorder, is there a way to know how long until it is in stock, so im not just waiting forever?

Thanks

Is there a reason you don’t want to get a T3? I replaced the lug and bolt cover on mine. Not sure what other differences one would find between them.

Just seems like the t3 is being phased out, might be tougher to find parts or mods in the future without replacing the stock. Not the biggest deal to go with t3, I just want to be one and done with my purchase.

I understand the concern, but I personally wouldn’t worry about it. The two rifles are very close. The T3X has a better recoil lug and a better bolt shroud. The stocks are interchangeable. The ejection ports are slightly different sizes.

I treat my T3 just the same as my T3Xs.

That's good news, cuz its been a crazy pain to find this caliber that is stainless for the t3x. I guess its either really popular or not popular enough, not sure. I found some t3s locally to check out. Thanks for your insights.

That’s weird. They used to be readily available. Me and a buddy both bought SS superlites locally. I think with some of the newer cartridges being offered, they probably shift production to what’s hot and new.

If I showed you a T3 and a T3X I would bet you couldn't tell the difference between the two just looking at them other than the stock is a bit different. Like has already been posted 99.9% of aftermarket parts will work on both (y) I sure have no complaints with my T3 7MM-08.

If you can find a gently used stainless T3 7mm-08 at a good price, buy it.

If you find 2, buy one and tell me about the other.

Among my Tikkas I have a stainless T3 and a Superlite, both in 7mm-08. I could use one more.

"Difference without distinction" describes when two things are labeled or treated as different, but the difference is trivial, meaningless, or non-existent in practice.

Tikka needed to update the T3 so it made some changes, difference without distinction, and raised the price.

Couple other differences I seem to recall. While the stock inlet is interchangeable, the grip, lop spacers and stock exterior finish are differences iirc. I also think there may be more integral scope mounting options too, couple more holes, not sure on that one. I have both and both shoot very well with the same smooth bolt throw and a vg trigger.

Define “better.”
If one was shot enough, there are some cases where the T3 aluminum recoil lug would get indented from the barrel cutout. Could be there was a little slop to begin with, no idea. But I had a very early model T3 in 270 Win that got shot a bunch and groups started to open up.

Checked the lug and it was indented, you could feel it, flipped it over and accuracy returned. So one could say the T3X lug is “better” because it is steel, aka harder, and presumably a closer match to the barrel hardness, just a guess. I also suspect if the aluminum lug was epoxy bedded it would be unlikely to ever be an issue, another guess. All I know for sure is mine got indented and flipping it and later putting a steel one in restored its accuracy.

The lines vs smooth on the top of the receiver is the quick visual standout.
