Where to buy a 7x57 Mauser

Anyone know where someone could get a 757 Mauser? I read an article in fur fish and game and I’m interested in one after reading.

Somebody else on here was interested in a Win 77 7x57 that was posted in a thread. I sent them a link to one on Gunbroker then, but it has since sold. I'd set up a search function on all the big online sites. They are about, but you gotta be ready to jump.

Zastava, the manufacturer of many mauser 98 actioned rifles imported into North America offer a 7x57 wood and blued with serviceable, if not my ideal, iron sites. I know in Canada we can get them directly from Zastava. Perhaps Sauer 100 or Mauser 18.
Other than that you're looking at used, limited runs or screw a new barrel on a donor.

there are 94 results for a search for 7x57 today, about half the gun results are sporting rifles, about half are C&R military mausers.

Ruger has made the No1A and RSI and the M77 in 7x57, Rem did a run of M700 classics years ago, Winch made some M70 fwt's years ago. and a bunch euro-guns too, some grossly expensive.

a few Ruger's were marked .275 Rigby, same cartridge, cooler name.

What is it about the cartridge itself that intrigues you? You’d get more performance out of a 280 in the long action required by the 7x57. You could nearly match performance with a 7mm-08 in a short action. Accuracy can be tricky given the varying chamber dimensions found in various 7x57s.

With that said, its a “cool” cartridge and can be loaded where it exceeds 7mm-08 velocities, given a modern action to contain it.

Give Savage custom shop a call, they may be able to build you one. You can also rebarrel most long action rifles to 7x57 as well as be on the lookout for milsurp mausers

If a guy is interested in cartridges with a history and some character, it's hard to do better than the 7x57.

I just spent half the quarantine building a semi-custom 7x57 out of a vintage Savage 110. It was worth the wait. That rifle was just begging for a great, classic caliber and the 7x57 suits it perfectly.

My dumb a** went and sole my BRNO zkk in 7x57. It was one of the older models with a strait trigger and pop up rear peep. I still have one in .308. But I miss my 7x57.

I killed my first buck nearly 15 years ago with a Chilean 1895 sporter in 7x57. It was an 1895 block production that was later very nicely sporterized in the 1950s by an old gunsmith back home. I purchased it and a very nice Swedish sporter as he was cleaning out his collection.

7x57 is a great round. The modern US loadings a are extremely anemic. Full pressure loads exceed 7mm-08, but are questionable in the older small ring actions.

I’ve also got a Peruvian 1909 sporter (large ring) in 7x57AI. It’s a tack driver, but the target profile barrel is too heavy for carrying all day in the field.

Always on the lookout for a rare Husqvarna 1600-series in 7x57, but haven’t found one I could afford yet. Closest I’ve come is the much more common 6.5x55, which is also a classic hunting round.

Simpson ltd has some husqvarna mausers for pretty reasonable prices, just looked and they didn’t have any 7x57’s but you could always rebarrel one.

Winchester has chambered it off and on. They did a Shot Show special a few years ago. Before that, there were push-feed
XTRs. Both will show up now and then on places like GunBroker. Pre-64 7x57s bring in a lot when they become available.

I’ve got 640/1640 husky’s in .220 Swift, 6.5x55, .270 Win, .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, and 9.3x62. I’ll snag a 7x57 one of these days. Really want one in .358 Norma Mag also.

Several of those came from Simpsons. I’d buy one from there again in a heartbeat. Great guys to deal with.
