Concerning read. Thanks for sharing. I am not hearing anything about it heading in a good direction. It's not good for sportsmen that's for sure.

CPW is garbage. Most of the people that work for them are on some sort of power trip, they dont care about actual issues facing outdoorsmen, and they would rather tell you to "go back to california" if you question them, even though they have the liberal ideas. There are some good officers, but overall, its a crappy paid government agency that is there to make money and do what they want, not what is best for the wildlife, or people buying licenses.

But not until they destroy the wildlife by introducing apex predators and then take away opportunities from the NR's who paid big money to build them up to what they are today.

It's all of our faults for where they are at today. We watched it/funded it to grow into the monster it has become. Just like ALL govt in this country.

Just read that article. Colorado is doomed. Someone needs to bring forth a ballot initiative to separate Parks from Wildlife and force them to fund themselves without the use of sportsmen dollars.

Not good. The only hope is to get more conservatives elected, and that likely won’t happen. Supermajority of democrats is the problem.

“If it’s not recreation, it’s DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion.) And if it’s not DEI, it’s wolves. And there is nothing else,” said Dan Gates, a founding member of the partnership and long-time volunteer in Colorado’s wildlife community representing the Coloradans for Responsible Wildlife Management and Colorado Trapper and Predator Hunters Association. “There’s no room for any conversations around wildlife and habitat management. Nothing can be done for wildlife and habitat because there are all these other distractions on this landscape. It’s so frustrating for the sportsmen community.”

The letter, sent by Gates, Jenny Burbey with the Colorado Outfitters Association, Luke Wiedel from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, explained that volunteers “are no longer comfortable serving” after the Colorado Department of Natural Resources last year investigated allegations that Gates displayed racist behavior. The investigation yielded no evidence supporting the claims.

Three big groups dropping out isn't good. Especially RMEF. The path it looks like CPW is going is one similar to California. Wildlife game management takes a distant seat behind all of the other things they want to do. Diversity, equity, and inclusion is code for ignoring g what really needs to be done and concentrating on issues that makes the commission look virtuous.

The writing has been on the wall for several years now. Hunting isn’t in the future plans of CPW. Look at the vehicle registration pass, habitat stamps etc. They are already exploring new revenue streams and I bet they figure out a way that selling hunting licenses isn’t needed in the next 20-30 years. Wolves are just one more piece of the puzzle they need.

The wolves in Colorado won't be getting their start in a national park...just saying

That article sounds like a dumpster fire. I know some good people that work for them but Denver is a far away place. What do you expect when the commission is made up of people who are so far removed from a rural way of life and hunting culture.

They need to split parks and wildlife back. The missions are so divergent. In a private land state, parks and wildlife makes more sense, but not public where managers are working across landscapes. People who are not sufficiently educated and/or professionally involved with wildlife for their entire career should not be serving on the committee overseeing wildlife policy direction.

Not good. The hunting groups were just being used by CPW so they can list them as being part of the conversation... The antis will just start vegan hunting groups with similar names so they can pretent hunters are part of their save the wolves BS to take our guns.

This is an old myth. The parks division and the wildlife division operate on two separate budgets/funds and money they generate goes to their own funds. When you buy a parks pass that money goes to the parks budget/fund, when you buy a hunting license that money goes to the wildlife budget/fund. The only thing they share is administrative office space and staff such as HR, IT / website. You can find all of the operating budget info online.

Only 3% of the revenue that is raised by both departments is shared to fund those administrative expenses that are shared by both.
