I keep hearing about this Doug Flutie/Fluty character and how he is terrible at calling and always blows up your hunting spot and walks through your camp and is just generally everything you don't want to be around while hunting. Where did this come from? What is the lore?

Doug Flutie was a famous quarterback back in the day. The connection to hunting was an inside joke that the Born and Raised guys made amongst themselves during their early Land of the Free series. They would joke trying to decide if a bugle they heard was a real elk or some other hunter ripping a bugle tube/flute. Then one of them cracked that it was Doug Flutie. It's since grown/evolved to be an internet joke like every other internet joke does. Think of it like a spoken meme...

Thank you for that clear explanation. I understood the meme-ishness but couldn't find anything connecting the real Doug Flutie with hunting. I figured it was something like that there was some hunting VHS tape with him in it doing stupid stuff in it. Way deeper than my experience. Thanks again!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Elknut was referencing Doug Flutie before the B & R guys. Can someone confirm or deny this?

It ties to a lot of the guys bugling or type of bugle used that sound more like flutes than an elk bugle.

I think more specifically this old Primos.

My hazy memory has that as initially an inside joke between Dirk "The Bugler" Durham and Corey "Elk 101" Jacobsen that was started by Corey's dad Rocky. I'm sitting at 90% confidence rate on that one.

Definitely predates the "BRO" boo-bears.
