What's your standby Whitetail hunting knife?

Years ago my trusty Buck 119 was the knife that always went with me to the woods but it ended up seeming a bit overkill for deer. For quite a few years, now, my Buck 102 has become my choice for general tasks and field-dressing, along with my Buck Omni Hunter 10-Point knife for skinning duties.
What knife is your first choice for the Whitetail woods?

I use a Benchmade saddle mountain skinner. Also probably overkill, but it fits my hand very well and fits in my backpack just fine too

I don’t hunt whitetails generally, but for mule deer and elk I carry a Bradford Guardian 3. Skins and quarter a whole elk or deer with it no issue 3in blade, M390 steel.

I don't even know what kind of knife I use. It really doesn't matter for just gutting a deer. You could use one of those cool skull gas station knives for $10 as long as it's kind of sharp.

A buck 110 has field dressed a lot of deer for me over the years however the the last two years I switched between a benchmade saddle mountain and a buck 102 . I prefer the 102 for field dressing and the benchmade for skinning .

For whitetails, I usually use my benchmade mini grip pocket knife for the gut job in the field.


If I’m planning to quarter one out, I’ll have a benchmade hidden canyon hunter and havalon with me.

Mine used to be a buck 110. Switched out for a cutco serrated for gutting and a nessemuck for skinning.

A buck 102 or a case mini-copperlock have always served me well.

Havalon and then a custom by Big Chris. It’s in S90V and my own design which is a larger version of the KOA capper. Added larger handle and blade. Once sharp it will quarter 3 deer before needing to be touched up.

Smith and Sons Axiom is my knife for deer and everything smaller. Have used it on multiple whitetails with no complaints, as well as plenty of ducks and small game. Very cool knife from a smaller US company.

KOA Whitetail Hunter is my go-to for everything, from 40 lb hogs to Elk. I don't use the gut hook for guts, but it unzips the hide lickety split for skinning and minimizes hair cuts.

That’s a good looking knife. Sold out right now, but I’ll keep an eye on em cause I’m interested.
